Lawrence Leon Bingham

February 2, 1931 — January 5, 2003

Logan - Lawrence Leon Bingham, 71, passed away Sunday, January 5, 2003 at the Logan Regional Hospital. He was born February 2, 1931 in Smithfield, to Lawrence Pratt and Blanche Cantwell Bingham. He married Margaret Wells Jones on July 9, 1973. Leon spent his younger years in Amalga, and later moved to Smithfield in 1970. He moved to Logan in 1973 and spent the remainder of his life there. He graduated from North Cache High School in 1949. As a youth Leon worked for Del Monte canning. He served with the United States Army from 1951-1953, during the Korean Conflict. His service time was spent at the Redstone Army Arsenal, Alabama. From there he went to JB Parson Construction and worked until he was hired by USU Physical Plant in 1960. He worked for USU until he retired as a supervisor in 1992. In November of 2002 he received recognition for 50 years continuing membership in The American Legion. Leon was an avid hunter and fisherman all his life. He was a dedicated reader of history and western folklore. Leon is survived by his wife, Margaret, mother Blanche, and four step-children. Terry Terrie Jones, Logan; Judy Russ Francis, Layton; Morris Lynette Jones, Young Ward; Randy Jones, Logan; 7 step-grandchildren and 2 step-great-grand children. He is also survived by one brother, Nolan Carol Bingham; Nephews ? Brad Michelle Bingham; Stephen Melanie Bingham; Nieces ? Nancy Kirk Gray; Lori Brad Greer; and their children. He was preceded in death by his father and brother Morris. The family of Leon would like to thank Dr. Nathan Call and the nurses who attended to Leon for their kindness and concern during his illness. Graveside services will be held Tuesday, January 7, 2003 at the Smithfield City Cemetery at 1:30 p.m. There will be a viewing prior to the services at Nelson Funeral Home, 85 South Main, Smithfield from 12:00 ? 1:00 p.m. Internment will be in the Smithfield City Cemetery where military honors will be performed by the Smithfield American Legion Post 58.
