Garland: LaVerl Dee Hess, 70 died suddenly, September 28, 2007. He was born February 9, 1937 in Millville, UT to Verlin E. and Elverda May Hulse Hess. He married Betty Jean Osmond June 6, 1975 in Pocatello, ID. Their marriage was solemnized in the Logan LDS Temple.
LaVerl is a U.S. Army veteran and lived in Ogden, UT Woodland, Port Orchard, and Shelton, WA; and Garland, UT since 1997. He enjoyed antique cars, gardening and fishing. He was a high priest in the Garland 5th Ward and served ward and stake missions; was a home teacher and Sunday school president. Surviving are his wife, of Garland; one daughter and one son; Karla Cordell Smith; Doug Hess all of Ogden, UT; One step-son, Jay Osmond, Wasilla, Alaska; 10 grandchildren; two brothers, Clair and Larry, three sisters, Marlene, Sylvia and Buni. Funeral services will be held Wednesday, 3 October 2007 at the Garland 5th Ward Chapel, 175 South Main, Garland, with Bishop Dennis Rhodes, officiating. A viewing will be held Tuesday, 2 October, 6-8 p.m. at Rogers & Taylor Funeral Home, 111 N. 100 East, Tremonton and Wednesday 12:30-1:40 p.m. at the church. Interment will be in the Fielding Cemetery, where military honors will be accorded.
