Laurel Bateman Gyllenskog

March 18, 1926 — December 17, 2004

Laurel Bateman Gyllenskog, 78, passed away December 17th at her home in Smithfield, Utah. She was born March 18, 1926 to John Alfred Bateman and Jane Amelia Smith in Richmond, the youngest of eight children. Laurel was educated in Richmond and graduated from North Cache High School. Laurel married Glen C. Duke Gyllenskog July 3, 1945 in the Logan LDS Temple. They are the parents of five children: Jeff Susan, Sandy; Max Eva, Smithfield; Dan Pat, Smithfield; Jane, Smithfield; Joy Bob Page, Smithfield. She was the proud grandmother of 21 grandchildren and 28 great grandchildren. She worked for 33 years in the Cache County School District as the secretary for 8 principals at North Cache High School, Smithfield Junior High School, North Cache Junior High School and Cedar Ridge Middle School. She loved the students and took pride in knowing every student in the school each year. She also enjoyed her association with the many educators, administrators and classified employees that she worked with through the years. She played saxophone in the Cache Community Band for many years and fulfilled a lifelong dream of marching in the Health Day Parade with the Sky View High School Band in 1985 at the age of 59. Laurel was a faithful member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served in numerous organizations and positions in the Church. She is survived by her husband, children, two sisters, Wanda Spackman and Zelda Stoddard both of Richmond, and one brother, Lee Bateman of River Heights. She was preceded in death by her parents, two sisters, Violet and Erma, and two brothers Alfred and Albert. Funeral Services will be held Wednesday December 22, 2004, 11:00 a.m., at the Smithfield North LDS Utah Stake Center, 400 North and 200 West in Smithfield. Friends and family may call Tuesday December 21, 2004, 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Nelson Funeral Home, 85 South Main, Smithfield and Wednesday December 22, 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. at the Stake Center. Interment will be in the Smithfield City Cemetery. Condolences may be extended to the family online at www.nelsonfuneralhome.com
