Laura Van Orden Jackson, age 95, passed away peacefully on February 14, 2002 at her home in Lewiston, Utah. She was born April 6, 1906 in Osmond Ward, Wyoming to David Horton and Martha Waddoups Van Orden. She married Albert James Jackson, June 5, 1940 in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. She has been a faithful, life long member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints and was a member of the Lewiston First Ward for the past 60 years. She served in many callings. She especially enjoyed serving as a Relief Society visiting teacher where she could present the monthly visiting teacher message. She also found great joy in serving as a Primary and Sunday School teacher and as the Nursery Leader. All of her life, Laura had a great love for children and was never so happy as when a child was left in her care. She spent countless hours serving others by tending their children. Laura was also proud of her membership in the Daughters of Utah Pioneers, where she has been a member for almost 50 years. Laura enjoyed music, poetry and faith promoting stories. She had committed to memory many hymns, family folk tunes and sayings. Her memory has always been a gift and she was able to recall birthdays and send cards to her family and friends. Survivors include her husband of Lewiston, Utah. Three sons and two daughters, Bertha, Joe, Sr. Diaz, Corpus Christi, Texas; Demar, Richmond, Utah; K. Arnold Gail Chandler, Arizona; Pauline, Preston, Idaho; Morris Beverly, Centerville, Utah. Laura had 15 grandchildren and 24 great-grandchildren all of whom she loved dearly. She is also survived by three sisters all over the age of 90, Alice Ransom, Idaho Falls, Idaho; Afton Fullmer, Logan, Utah; Jessie John Trease, Hooper, Utah; a sister-in-law, Lois Van Orden, Salt Lake City, Utah. She was preceded in death by her son, Lavern and two brothers and two sisters. Funeral services will be held at 12:00 noon on Tuesday, February 19, 2002 at the Lewiston First Ward Chapel, 10 South 1600 West. A viewing will be held Monday, February 18, from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. at the Nelson Funeral Home, 162 East 400 North, Logan and from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. on Tuesday at the church prior to the service.
