Laura Gayle Chambers Hansen of Smithfield passed away on Friday May 3, 2002 in the Logan Hospital at the age of 93. Laura was born to Alfred Bence and MaryAnn Fishburn Chambers on December 30, 1908 in Smithfield, Utah where she resided her entire life. Laura attended Smithfield Summit, Smithfield Junior High, and graduated from North Cache High School in 1926 where she was a member of the first seminary graduating class. She also attended Utah State University. On January 18, 1928 she married Morris LaVor Hansen for time and all eternity in the L.D.S. Logan Temple. They were the proud parents of seven children. Morris passed away on April 2, 1963. Laura was a loving wife, devoted mother and grandmother. Her selfless acts and charitable nature blessed the lives of all who knew her. She excelled in homemaking skills such as cooking and handiwork. Laura had a great sense of humor, zest for life, and love of people which lifted the lives of others. She was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints and served in many callings including teacher, counselor, and President of the Relief Society for nine years. Her surviving children and spouses include: Gayle Richard Cook, of Orem, Wendell Rella Hansen, of Amalga, Mary Elaine Beckstead, of Bountiful, Dr. Vincent Maria Hansen, of Ogden, Sue Ann Read, of West Point. Daughter in-law: JoAnn Hansen, of Smithfield. Sister Mary C. Mather, of Smithfield, 31 Grandchildren, and many Great Grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband and sons A. Lavor and James P. Hansen, a grandson Ferron Wendell Hansen, 4 brothers, 3 sisters and a special friend Mary G. Hansen. Funeral Services will be held in Smithfield 2nd Ward Chapel Wednesday May 8th at 12:00 p.m., 175 So. 1st West, Smithfield. Viewings will be held Tuesday May 7th from 6:00to 8:00 p.m. at Nelson Funeral Home in Smithfield, 85 So. Main, and Wednesday at the church from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. Burial will be in the Smithfield City Cemetery.
