Larry Dean Rogers, 53, beloved husband, father and grandfather, passed away on March 8, 2005 at his home after a courageous battle with depression. Larry was born on March 8, 1952, in Salt Lake City, Utah. He was raised by his parents Dean and Mary Rogers and reared in the LDS Church in Logan. He was educated and graduated from Logan High School and attended Utah State University. Larry was an avid outdoor enthusiast. He displayed a great love and respect for mother nature, the mountains, wildlife, and the picturesque beauty of the great outdoors was his favorite domain. Winter was Larry?s favorite season, which was truly a ?wonderland? for him. Larry displayed a passion for skiing and was partial to back country skiing. He was an expert skier and was highly skilled in mountaineering. At one point in time, Larry was a certified ski instructor in Park City, Utah. In 1985, he owned and operated ?Powder Ridge Touring? in Logan. Larry would guide his guests to his yurts in Logan Canyon and to good snow, but he was always content to let folks find their own fun. An article was published in the magazine ?Cross Country Skier? regarding Larry?s yurts and ski tours, which brought attention and recognition from people all over the country wanting to experience the great outdoor pleasures. Larry was a perfectionist at whatever he attempted. He was well known for his carpentry skills and could create anything out of wood. He and his wife, Mary, built their own dream log cabin home in Cherry Creek Canyon, which is absolutely breathtaking. Larry had been employed with various companies over the years while residing in the Cache Valley area: Wurlitzer, Moore Business Communications, Trailhead Sports, Raymond Construction, Anderson Construction, Bear River Publishing and R.E.I. in Alaska. Larry is survived by his loving wife Mary Lou; beloved daughter Stacy Larsen from a previous marriage to Kaye Richardson; a cherished son, Taylor Michael Rogers from a previous marriage to Beverly Manuel; the following stepchildren: Travis, Ginger, Jodi and their spouses and seven incredibly loved grandchildren. Also parents Dean and Mary Rogers; sister Marianne Garrett, brother Dale Rogers; Parents-in-law, Dennis and Joy Pitcher and the Pitcher family; and numerous nieces and nephews. Larry?s kind and gentle spirit will be with us always. A graveside service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, March 12, 2005 at the Logan City Cemetery. Family and friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. on Friday, March 11 at Nelson Funeral Home located at 162 E. 400 N. in Logan and also on Saturday morning from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. at the funeral home prior to services.
