LaNae Whiting Brown

August 14, 1950 — June 9, 2013

LaNae Whiting Brown passed away suddenly June 9, 2013. She was born August 14, 1950 to Ronald and Capitola Whiting on a beautiful summer day in Shelley, Idaho. She grew up on a farm in Firth, Idaho and enjoyed the farm animals and loved being with her father. She then moved to Basalt, Idaho where her parents bought a small farm, a country store and her mother was postmaster. She spent many hours skiing with her father, fishing and camping. Being the tail-ender, she was his best bud. She loved sports and participated in High School sports and received a scholarship to Ricks College to play basketball. From there she went to school at BYU-Hawaii for a year where she fell in love with the Island and the Polynesian people. She also worked at the Polynesian Cultural Center. While in Hawaii, she decided to go on an LDS mission and served an honorable mission to Argentina. She then went to BYU in Provo, Utah and graduated with a bachelor degree. She then moved to California and lived and worked there for 25 years. During that time she married and had a precious son, Matthew. She later divorced and raised her son in California. In 2006 she moved to Smithfield, Utah and lived with her sister Sherrie and soon got her own apartment. Her son soon followed and eventually married and has three beautiful children which were the light of LaNae's life. Anyone who knew LaNae loved her for her kind and loving spirit. She was an active member of the LDS church and had a strong testimony. She is survived by her son, Matthew; 3 grandchildren, Destiny, Kortney, and Kaden; sisters; Peggy Ricks, Deanne Kunz LaRelle, Sherrie Bates Lynn, brother, Ron Whiting Stella. She was preceded in death by her parents, Ronald and Capitola Whiting.
Funeral services will be held Monday, June 17, 2013 at 12 noon in the Smithfield 21st Ward, 300 South 345 East. A viewing will be at the church from 10 to 11:30 a.m. Interment will be in the Ammon Idaho Cemetery on Tuesday, June 18, 2013 at 10:00 a.m.
