Kristine Nelson Albretsen

August 7, 1953 — July 27, 2024

Hyrum

Kristine Nelson Albretsen, of Hyrum, Utah, passed away unexpectedly on Saturday July 27, 2024 after a trip to the hospital revealed advanced respiratory concerns. Kristine was born on August 7, 1953 to Keith Earl Nelson and Mary Beth Wahlen Nelson in Logan, Utah. The third of five children, Kristine (known by most as “Kris”) had a happy childhood. She loved family gatherings at her grandparents’ houses, family picnics, learning crochet and embroidery from her grandmother Vera. They had two horses growing up: Pal (short for Palomino) and Kema (short for Keith and Mary) which she loved riding. She had a special connection with horses, and enjoyed riding and caring for them all her life.

After graduating from Logan High School in 1971, Kris married her high school sweetheart Steven Burt Webb Albretsen in the Logan, Utah temple. They made their home for a short time in Idaho before settling in Hyrum, Utah in 1980 to raise their family of four children. Despite many ward and stake changes, they have always been in Hyrum 1st Ward.

Kris spent 32 years working at the Cache County Senior Center, managing the Meals on Wheels Program and coordinating service efforts in the community. She spent many hours serving the seniors and being a friend to them as well as other employees and volunteers. She was a staple of the Senior Center because of her wonderful smile and warm personality to every visitor. She retired in 2019, and spent her retirement playing with grandkids, grandkid sleepovers, attending their many recitals and performances, hosting family get-togethers and enjoying a good book. She loved reading, and often would read aloud to her grandkids when they visited.

Kris was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, and will be remembered as a thoughtful and compassionate woman, happy to serve quietly. She would often see a need and fulfill it without any recognition. This was something that she taught her children as well. She was cheerful and selfless, teaching her children how to work hard and be grateful for what they were given. She and Steve taught their children the gospel through example preparing all of them to serve missions and be faithful members of the church.

Kris was preceded in death by her father, Keith Earl Nelson. She leaves behind her mother Mary Beth Wahlen Nelson, her siblings: Leslie Nelson Abbot [Myron], Dennis Nelson [Jennifer], David Nelson [Julie], and Dianna Nelson Maughan [Larry]. She also leaves behind her children Jule Albretsen [Phoebe], Desirae Albretsen Eastmond, Heather Albretsen Hicken [Tom], and Keith Albretsen [Kellianne]. Kris was the proud grandma to 24 special grandkids.

Funeral services will be held at the Latter-Day Saint meetinghouse located at 125 North 400 West in Hyrum, Utah. More information will be available on the Nelson Funeral Home website: nelsonfuneralhome.com.
