Kleon Harding Kerr

Tremonton, Utah � Kleon Harding Kerr, 98, passed away peacefully Sunday, October 18, 2009 surrounded by his family.
A proud Utah native, he was born April 26, 1911 in Plain City, Utah to William Affleck and Rose Elizabeth Harding Kerr. He and Katherine Abbott were married March 15, 1941 in Tremonton, Utah and sealed in the Logan Temple November 5, 1941. Katherine died August 8, 2006.
Kleon leaves a legacy of genuine love for people and an optimistic attitude about life. He will be remembered for his poems and his love for telling a good story.
He earned degrees from Weber College, George Washington University, and Utah State University. He was an educator for 36 years, including 11 years as principal of Bear River High School. Soon after retiring he began a second career with the Utah Travel Bureau, retiring once again at the age of 92.
Kleon was a dedicated public servant. He worked for 23 years in local and state government. His positions included mayor of Tremonton and member of both the Utah State House of Representatives and the Utah State Senate.
A faithful member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, his church service began as a young missionary in England. Throughout his life he served in numerous ward, stake and temple callings.
Kleon was preceded in death by his wife and one grandson. Surviving are three children: Kathleen Johnson, William Abbott Jill, and Rebecca Rae Larry Petersen; 12 grandchildren, and 26 great-grandchildren.
Memorial services will be held Saturday, October 24, 2009 11:00 a.m. at the Riverview Ward Chapel, 10750 North Highway 38, Deweyville. The family will meet friends Friday, October 23, 2009 from 6:00-8:00 p.m. at Rogers and Taylor Funeral Home, 111 North 100 East, Tremonton and Saturday from 9:30-10:45 a.m. at the church prior to services. Interment will be at the Tremonton Riverview Cemetery.
The family expresses heartfelt thanks to Tauna and Justin Hall for their tender care and to IHC Hospice and Lacey King for their kindness. The family suggests donations be made to the LDS Perpetual Education Fund.
