Kevin Jack Howard, 72, of Smithfield passed away at his home, surrounded by family, December 14,2024 following a short, but courageous battle with cancer. Kevin was born on May 12,1952 in Logan, Utah, to Jack and Nada Howard. He grew up in Smithfield where he would ride his bike up Smithfield canyon to fish. His friends always wondered why he was always able to catch more fish than them. They would drop their fish line eight inches from where he would drop his, thinking they would catch a fish, but never did.
Kevin graduated from Sky View High School. He met the love of his life while he was dragging main in Logan. He married Brenda Dahle on April 27, 1973. Kevin had several jobs around the valley. He worked at Nucor Steel for 31 years and retired in 2016.
He enjoyed working in the yard and gardening. His yard always looked immaculate. He was also always willing to help with improvements in the house and did them all with perfection, knowing all too well his wife would be closely inspecting every detail. Kevin loved the outdoors and was an avid hunter. He made many special memories hunting with family and friends, but especially with his son. In October he and Jeremy were able to go on a very special moose hunt. He was so excited to get a moose and spend time in some very beautiful country.
Another one of Kevin’s passions was baseball. He was a die-hard Cubs fan. He also loved music. His friends were always impressed how he would know the name and lyrics of every song. Kevin was a simple man. His favorite song was “Simple Man” by Lynyrd Skynyrd. He was always happy with what he had and didn’t need anything more. He never complained and just went with the flow. He was a quiet man but if you caught him at the right time and on the right subject he would talk your ear off.
Kevin had a very special group of friends. He loved them like family. He loved the time that they were able to go camping with them and on ATV rides.
Family was very important to Kevin. His family was his whole world. He loved going to his grandkid’s sporting events and was their number one fan. He attended every single game or event he could, and if he couldn’t be there, he would watch their games on Game Changer. He was a very special dad and grandpa.
Our family is very blessed that we were able to spend so much time together traveling and making memories. We are going to miss this special man so much. Our hearts are broken, and we can’t imagine going on in this world without you.
We Love You!
