Kent Duane Maughan beloved brother, father, grandfather, son and friend passed away peacefully January 18, 2015 in the LDS Hospital in Salt Lake City, after a valiant battle with heart disease and other illnesses.
Kent was born August 30, 1961 in Afton, Wyoming to G. Ray and Joyce Jacobsen Maughan. He was the seventh of nine children. He lived his first six years in Freedom, Wyoming until his family moved to Logan, Utah where he spent many hours working on the LDS dairy farm with his father and siblings.
Kent attended schools in Logan, including Logan High School where he was a successful wrestler, played racquetball and enjoyed watching all sports. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, playing the card game Rook and playing pool all of which he was very good at. In later years, Kent spent much time at the Bear River House in Logan where he enjoyed playing pool and socializing with friends.
He married Julie Carling in 1983. They were blessed with a beautiful daughter named Ashley. They were later divorced. He married Millie Fernandez in 2001. He had two beautiful step-daughters Jocelyn and Naomi. Kent and Millie were later divorced. Recently, he spent much time with his dear girlfriend and soul mate, Pat Kunz.
Kent had a great sense of humor. He was a gentle, kind, compassionate and forgiving man. He rarely spoke ill of others and loved his parents, siblings and friends dearly, calling them often. He was a friend to many and was kind, caring and compassionate. Kent endured many challenges and trials in his life, all of which he faced courageously and faithfully.
He was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints.
He worked at Mode O Day, Tri-Miller, Cache Valley Cheese, Weslo and most recently Wal-Mart.
He was preceded in death by his parents and older brother Steven Ray Maughan. He is survived by his daughter Ashley, his grandsons Johnathon and Ethan, his girlfriend, Pat Kunz, his siblings Linda (Ron) Hughes, Janice (Bruce) Allen, Marilyn (Rich) Newton, Kathy (Monte) Bradshaw, Larry (Dianna) Maughan, Debbie, Lisa (Carlos) Mejia.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, January 24, 2015 at the Nelson Funeral Home, located at: 162 East 400 North, Logan, Utah. Friends and family may call from 6:30 to 8:00 p.m. on Friday, and from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. on Saturday at the funeral home prior to services.
