Smithfield ? Kenneth A. Elwood, 79, passed away on Saturday, May 24, 2003 at his home in Smithfield. Ken was born September 22, 1923 to Rosel Heber and Myrel Leone Bingham Elwood. He spent his childhood in Cache Valley were he graduated from North Cache High School. His joy of High School was being on the Varsity Basketball team for 3 years. Ken enlisted in the U.S. Navy in 1943 and spent three years serving his county. He married Victoria Helen Urban on December 21, 1944 in Sand Point, Idaho. They later divorced in 1959. Ken later married Marian Frye Larsen on September 1, 1974 in Elko, NV. Their marriage was later solemnized in the Logan LDS Temple on November 20, 1984. They spent their lives together in Smithfield and together raised 11 children. Ken loved being out doors. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, camping, watching any sporting event, and most of all horse racing. He would travel anywhere to enjoy a good horse race. Ken had a strong love for his country, and a sharing personality when it came to his homemade horseradish. His sharing extended over with the jerky treats that he shared with children and grandchildren. He was a member of the Smithfield 1st Ward where he was a High Priest. Ken is survived by his wife Marian and children: Helen Anne, Todd Kim, Don J, Linda Christine, and Jeffrey Gene. Stepchildren include; Glenna Bob, Catherine, Valeria Rick, JoAnn, Jeri Lyn Gary, Glen R., 36 grandchildren and 34 great grandchildren. Three brothers also survive Ken; Eugene, Russell, and Norman. He is preceded in death by his parents, brothers; Dale and Mervin; sister; Myrle and an infant sister; grandson, Nathan; step-son, Russell Wayne; and step-grandson, Travis Lee Larsen. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, May 28, 2003 at 12:00 Noon at the Smithfield 1st Ward Chapel, 175 South 100 West, Smithfield. There will be a viewing prior to the services at the church from 10:00 ? 11:30 a.m. Internment will be in the Smithfield City Cemetery. The family would like to extend a special thanks to Dr. Michael J. Stones, Hospice and also to Elizabeth Liz Bell at the VA Hospital.
