Keith Mortensen Munk

April 3, 1925 — August 12, 2010

Our beloved husband, father and grandfather Keith M. Munk returned home to our Father in Heaven on August 12, 2010.
Keith was born April 3, 1925, in Manti, Utah. He was the fifth of eleven children of Louis and Dagmar Mortensen Munk. Keith graduated from Gunnison Valley High School. He left the farm to serve in the United States Army during World War II in the Philippines and in Japan with the Occupation Forces. After Keith was discharged from the Army, he accepted a call to serve a three-year LDS mission in Japan. After his mission he graduated from BYU. Keith married his eternal sweetheart Myrtle Fitzgerald on May 14, 1954, in the Manti LDS Temple for time and all eternity. Keith worked in the BYU Purchasing Department before he and Myrtle moved to Logan in 1963. Keith served in two bishoprics, one in Provo and one in Logan. He served on the High Council while in Logan. He served for many years with the Boy Scouts of America, in particular working at the 18th Ward pancake breakfast for over 35 years. He was awarded the Silver Beaver for distinguished service from the Boy Scouts of America. He also served in the baptistery in the Logan LDS Temple. He was a past president of Adams Elementary School PTA. Keith retired from Utah State University where he worked in the Purchasing Department. He was president of the Purchasing Managers Association of Utah. He received the Gordon Bert Affleck Award as Purchasing Manager of the Year. After he retired he and Myrtle served a mission to Japan from 1993 to1995. They also served a part-time service mission to the LDS Church Archives for 2.5 years starting in 2001. They were officers in the USU Emeriti Association and have enjoyed many events and travels with the group. Keith will be remembered for his honesty, hard work, service, kindness, and love of family, friends, and the church. He is survived by his wife, Myrtle, and children, Ann Craig Rasmussen, Danette Jeff McGilvray, George Heidi and Glen Kristie, 8 grandchildren, his brother Donald Nola and sisters Mavis Hansen, Betty Barton, Luella Jorgensen, Barbara Morris Lunt and Charlene Hal Seeley, in-laws Jean Munk, Roger Nelson, Bea Fitzgerald and Ann George Doyle.
He was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers Robert Munk, Claine Munk and Max Munk, one sister DeEtte Munk Nelson, a foster son James Lopez, and two grandchildren Marie Nicole Benton and Jason Keith Taggart.
A viewing will be held on Friday, August 20, 2010 from 6-8 pm at Nelson Funeral home, 162 East 400 North, in Logan. Funeral services will be Saturday, August 21 at the Logan 5th Ward Chapel, 502 East 300 North. A viewing will precede the funeral from 10:30 to 11:30 am with the funeral at 12:00 noon. Interment will be at the Logan Cemetery.
