Hyrum ? Kay Vern Jensen, 67, passed away peacefully on March 19, 2002 at the Logan Regional Hospital, surrounded by his loving family. He was born in Hyrum, Utah February 26, 1935 to Charles Vern and Menita Cummings Jensen. Kay grew up in Hyrum attending the local schools and graduated from South Cache High, a member of the Class of 1951-1952. After graduation, he enlisted in the military, the Naval Branch, and remained in active service for 20 years achieving the rank of Commissaryman 2nd Class. He is a veteran of the Korean and Vietnam Wars. He lived all over the United States, but particularly Texas, Hawaii and California. He married Carol Joy Blodgett, April 17, 1955 in California. After his retirement in 1972, he and his family returned to Hyrum to live in the family home. Carol later passed away in February of 1997. His mechanical ability, and enjoyment of such, was evident when he worked as crane operator at Niederhauser Construction and also at Bear River Lumber. He also enjoyed hunting and fishing. Family loved him; fish feared him. He is survived by two sons: Charles Rebecca Jensen, Smithfield; Rick JoAnne Jensen, Weston, Idaho; a daughter, Debbie Steve Johnson, Hyrum; 9 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren. Two sisters, Lona Jonas, Clearfield; and Dixie Jensen, Sunset, also survive him. He was preceded in death by his wife, Carol and a sister, Bonnie Jensen, Sunset. Graveside services will be held at the Hyrum City Cemetery on Saturday, March 23, 2002 at 12:00 noon with Military Honors. Friends and family may call at Nelson Funeral Home, 162 East 400 North, Logan, Saturday morning from 10:00 to 11:30 a.m. to share fond memories of Kay, but by his request, there will be no formal service.
