Kate Perkes Crockett

August 7, 1921 — April 5, 2012

Kate Perkes Crockett passed away on April 5, 2012 in Logan, Utah with her son-in-law Jay and grandson John by her side. She was born on August 7, 1921 in Hyde Park, Utah to Thomas and Rhoda Jorgensen Perkes. Mom was the 10th child in a family of 14. She married John Walter Crockett on March 23, 1942 in Preston, ID. Mom and Dad raised their 2 daughters in Logan, Utah. In 1967 they made an adventurous move and relocated in Montpelier, Idaho. There she and Dad opened a NAPA store where she helped Dad run the business. Mom was Dad's right hand and they lived many happy years there. Mom's grandchildren, Kim, Missi, Johnny, Ross, Robyn, and Katey have countless memories of Grandma Crockett. They went fishing, swimming in Bear Lake, chasing lizards at Sweetwater and just taking off in the motor home to go camping. She sure could make a blazing fire, which always impressed the grandkids. The tales told by the grandkids were always entertaining and exciting. They would eagerly recite the details of their adventures when they returned home. We would often wonder where she got the energy to keep up with her grandchildren. Mom was constantly on the run, working or helping others. Later in her life that characteristic showed up time after time in the nursing home when she would leave her room and often be found in the foyer just sitting and watching people come and go. She was often scolded by her wonderful heath care workers but she would smile and melt their hearts. Mom moved back to her roots, Cache Valley after Dad passed away in 2000. She kept busy by doing service for her friends and neighbors at Spring Hollow. She loved her great-grandchildren just as much as her grandchildren. The little ones absolutely loved Grandma Crockett. She was always there for birthdays, and special occasions making the day extraordinary. The year 2011 was unkind to Mom. It began with a broken ankle leading to several stays in the hospital. This was the start of the decline of her health. On her journey we met many earthly angels. So many wonderful people helped Mom reach her destination. Many thanks go out to: Family and friends, Logan Regional Hospital, Sunshine Terrace, Logan Nursing and Rehabilitation and especially to Dr. Brian Carlson. Her journey has ended and all of you have touched our family's hearts. Thank you all for sharing your love and kindness with our Mother. She is happy now and running in fields of yellow buttercups. We will all miss your cute little smile and spunky spirit. She is survived by her two daughters, Cathy Bill Gillespie, Hurricane, UT; and Marsha Jay Seamons, Smithfield, Utah; 6 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren. Sister and brothers: MellRee Anderson, Rolan Beena Perkes, Larry Udell Maureen Perkes and Doral Kathy Perkes. Funeral services will be held at noon on Tuesday, April 10, 2012 at Nelson Funeral Home 162 E 400 N. A viewing for family and friends will be held on Monday, April 9, 2012 from 6-7:30 pm at Nelson Funeral Home and again on Tuesday from 11-11:45. Interment will take place at the Smithfield City Cemetery.
