Karyn Hammond passed peacefully from her mortal stewardship, to enter the loving arms of the friends and family awaiting her return, during the early hours of September 5th, 2024.

Born to Robert and Claire Hammond, Karyn began her earthly journey in Washington State, but quickly settled – at an early age - with family in Logan, Utah, where she eventually attended Logan High School – graduating in 1967. She continued her formal education at Utah State University where she graduated with a Bachelor of Science in 1972.

Karyn married in 1975, to William Benjamin, during which time she had one son (Shawn) and loved and cared for a stepson (Bill) until their marriage later led to different paths. After a short stay in Colorado, Karyn returned to Utah where she continued to live and work as a professional woman (something for which she always took great pride) while raising her son.

While dedicating most of her time to those efforts, Karyn found tremendous pleasure in her intellectual and spiritual pursuits as well as volunteering for a variety of groups and organizations, including the LDS church, youth athletics, disabilities groups, local theaters, and even the 2002 Winter Olympics , where, as one of the top volunteers she was selected to escort the Olympic flag during the ticketed dress rehearsals and assist on the production side of the opening and closing ceremonies. Her personal fondness for artistic expression included both the fine and performing arts. She loved reading and writing poetry and always spoke especially fondly of her second family and friends of the stage.

Later in life, Karyn returned to Logan where she resided until her final departure at the age of 74. She was preceded in death by her father Robert and grandchildren whose time was too short. She is survived by her dear mother Claire, brothers Robert and William - their spouses and families, son Shawn and his wife Shalise and her grandchildren Danica and Bryhn, as well as her stepson Bill and his son Wyatt.

We extend our appreciation for all those who shared their light and love with our daughter, sister, mother and grandmother throughout her life. Your inspired moments with her were never disregarded.

Expressions of kindness from family and friends are appreciated in whatever form they inspire.
