Karlo K. Mustonen

Karlo K. Mustonen, 77, passed peacefully away at the LDS Hospital in Salt Lake City, on August 3, 2005. He fought a courageous battle with Pulmonary Fibrosis. Karlo was born in Finland October 7, 1927. He was schooled in the Finnish school system and did very well. He spent two years in the Finnish Army and earned the rank of Lieutenant. In 1954 Karlo came to America, sponsored by Jimmie and Bobbie Hamilton, who then lived in Hyde Park. He lived with them for two years and then moved to Logan. He graduated from USU with a degree in Library Science and started working full time at the USU Library. A few years later he went to the University of Minnesota and received his Masters Degree. He then returned to Logan and USU at the library where he worked until his retirement. Karlo was fluent in speaking nine different languages and could understand several others. Karlo was an active member of the Logan Fifth Ward of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. He was a faithful Home Teacher and worked in the scouting program as an Assistant Scout Master and then as a Scout Master. He touched many young men?s lives. He was always helping those less fortunate. He always attended to his assignments faithfully. He worked twenty four years at many different summer camps for the scouting program. He loved his summers doing that. He received the Silver Beaver award in scouting and his Vigil award in the Order of the Arrow. He was very active in the Sons of the Utah Pioneers, holding local and state offices. He went to many conventions and was well respected in that organization. Karlo always had a great, large vegetable garden and shared it with many in the neighborhood and his friends and family. He was an excellent gardener. His fresh vegetables brightened many homes over the years. He is survived by his American Family: Max and Jody Lamb, Michael, Jason, and Erin Lamb of Hyde Park; Tim and Gloria Gordon and their family of Mendon; Stephen and Dawn Lamb and their family of Woods Cross; Bruce, Brenda, Benjamin, Tiffany and Nathan Dana of Hyde Park. His American Father and Mother: Jimmie and Bobbie Hamilton preceded him in death. A funeral service will be held on Monday, August 8, 2005 in the Logan Fifth Ward Chapel at 1:00 p.m. with Bishop Keith Gardner conducting. There will be a viewing at Nelson Funeral Home, 162 East 400 North, Logan from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Sunday evening and Monday at the church one hour prior to the service. Interment will be in the Hyde Park Cemetery. We extend many thanks to the staff of the ICU unit of Logan Regional Hospital and Doctor Nash, and appreciate the fine care that he had a t Logan Rehabilitation Center and LDS Hospital in Salt Lake City with Doctor Pearl.
