TREMONTON - Our sweet, loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and very special friend June C. Garfield, 99, passed away without suffering Friday, July 8, 2011, in Brigham City. She was born June 3, 1912, in Willard, to Joseph M. Cordon and Sylvia Maria Wood. She spent her youth in Willard surrounded by her loving three sisters, brother, and large extended family.
June graduated from Box Elder High School and Weber College in elementary education. She taught in several Box Elder county schools. She married Owen Irvine Garfield in the Logan LDS Temple June 20, 1939. Irvine passed away Nove. 7, 1975. June gave up teaching to become a full-time wife, mother of four boys, and dedicated church worker, where she served in many stake and ward positions including councilor in the stake relief society presidency, ward relief society president, devoted Bishop's wife; what she loved most was teaching children. She began work in family history extraction when the center opened in Garland, and served there for over twenty years. June wanted her sons to gain a love for the Book of Mormon and started a family home evening program by reading and scrap-booking with the K. H. Fridal family. She was a spiritual giant with a strong testimony of the restored gospel. She was always busy and was an expert quilter and crocheter. She won the Utah State Fair grand sweep-stakes for both a quilt and a crocheted doily. Her greatest treasures call her wife, mother, and grandmother.
She is survived by her four sons: John R. J. R. Judy, J. Brent Vicki, Bruce C. Bonita, and David O. Regena; eleven grandchildren, 20 great-grandchildren and one great-great grandchild.
The family expresses thanks and appreciation to the staff at PrimRose Home Care and Hospice and Country Lane Assisted Living, which have been loving, caring, and made her last days so much more comfortable.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, sisters: Carma Lowe, LaVon Baddley, Leone Nielsen, and one brother Edwin W. Cordon.
