June Stayner Budge, 90, cherished mother, wife, devoted church worker, and popular teacher, passed away Thursday, June 7, 2007, in Logan, Utah, from natural causes. She was born June 2, 1917, in Price, Utah, to Ralph James Stevenson Stayner and Nina Pearl Smith Winters. She married Dr. Robert Sutton Budge in the Salt Lake Temple September 8, 1941. She has lived in Price and Garland, Utah; Mesa, Arizona; St. Louis, Missouri; Salt Lake City, Smithfield, and Logan, Utah. June graduated from Utah State University in 1939 with a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Physiology and Physical Education. She taught physical education and art at Bear River High School. In her school years, she excelled in sports and dance. At Utah State, she was a R.O.T.C Army Sponsor Spur service organization, President of Chi Omega Sorority, Phi Delta Pi Honorary Greek Fraternity, school news paper, and many other activities. She organized and taught dancing on Saturday in Garland to help financially with her education. While in Smithfield, she was president of the Junior Civic Club, Fine Arts, Library Board, Logan and Smithfield. Member of the Protection and White House Committee on Youth, University Women's Club, Member of the Disabled Childrens "Day Care", started "Friends of the Library" in Smithfield, member of Cache Valley Committee on Obscene Literature - giving lectures throughout the valley on this subject. She was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day-Saints, serving since she was in her early teens in many different callings, which she loved. Stake Dance Director for Bear River, Ensign and Smithfield Stake Speech, theology, mini art classes, visiting teacher for 51 years, choir and singing mothers, Primary President and Sister friendly primary called her Grandmother Budge. Art merit badge instructor for Boy Scouts, Extraction missionary genealogy in Latin and German, and missionary at the Logan Family History Library. June is survived by her eight children, June Ann Oldham Whit of Hoytsville, Ut., Robert Cort Marcia of LaVerne, California, Bonnie Palmer Allen, and Mike Cynthia both of Smithfield, Nina Hatch Blaine of Fairview, Idaho, Nancy Thomas Lynn and Keith Bonnie both of Hyde Park, and Margaret of Smithfield. She was a loving grandmother of 30 grandchildren and 45 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, July 31, 1995, mother and father, one brother, Herbert Winters Stayner, and his wife, Ruth Barrus Clark Stayner. Funeral services will be held Tuesday, June 12, at the Smithfield 7th Ward LDS chapel, 76 East 200 South, at 12:00 noon. Family and friends may call at Nelson Funeral Home, 85 South Main, Smithfield on Monday evening from 6 to 8 p.m. and also at the church on Tuesday from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. Her family wishes to thank Terrace Grove Assisted Living Center, and IHC Hospice, both of Logan, for their exceptional care during her illness. Internment will be at the Smithfield Cemetery.
