Julie Hawkes

Julie Hawkes, 74, passed away peacefully with her two children by her side on Thursday, May 1, 2008 at McKay-Dee Hospital in Ogden. She was born July 22, 1933 in Pocatello, Idaho to Morgan and Iva Orme Hawkes. She was raised in Pocatello, where she was very active in the theater, singing, and as a violinist in the orchestra. Julie graduated from Pocatello High School in 1951, she was a member of the National Honor Society. Following her graduation, she attended Ricks College for a year, before moving to California. She worked for McDonald Douglas and then for Western Airlines. She married in December of 1961 in Pocatello, Idaho and was later divorced. Through the years, Julie has had the opportunity to live in many places where she made lasting friendships. These places included Pocatello, Idaho; Simi Valley, California; Vancouver, British Columbia; and finally, Logan, Utah, where she resided until her passing. She was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. Julie spent the majority of her career working as a typesetter with two well-known newspapers in Canada, she was an active member of the Labor Union. While living in Vancouver, she went back to school and graduated from Simon Frasier University in June of 1981 with a BA in English Literature. Among her many interests, reading was first and foremost. She was an avid reader and became a 'friend' of the North Logan Library through the donation of countless books. She also loved giving and reading books with her grandchildren. She enjoyed writing, traveling, camping, and politics. Julie is survived by her children: Debra Wilcox, Farmington; David Harjadene, Farmington; two brothers: Joseph Carma Hawkes, Logan; David Reva Hawkes, Orem; four sisters: LeeAnn Lowell Dayton, Pleasant Grove; Mary Beth Bob Otto, Washington DC; Gaylia Harvey, Deceased Tanner, West Jordan; Linda Len, Deceased Lyon, Blackfoot, ID; and Donna Errol Phippen, Farmington. She is also survived by 6 grandchildren: Cassandra, Kelly, Robert, Megan, Makayla and Joseph. She was preceded in death by her parents, Morgan and Iva Orme Hawkes; a son, Bob Harjadene; and a son-in-law, Guy Wilcox. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, May 10, 2008 at Nelson Funeral Home, 162 East 400 North, Logan, Utah . Friends and family may call one hour prior to services.
