Joyce Leishman Payne

Joyce passed away peacefully at her home in Trenton at the age of 91. She was born in Wellsville, Utah on June 28, 1933 to Leroy Archibald Leishman and Gretta Maughan. She spent her childhood years in Wellsville. She was very proud of her family ancestry which she instilled in her children. She attended South Cache High School and LDS Business College.

She met and later married Cecil Navell Payne on September 16, 1955 in Wellsville. She had married a career Air Force man. They started their family at Reese Air Force Base in Lubbock, Texas with a son born there. In 1957 they moved to Hill Air Force Base in Ogden, Utah where they had a daughter and another son. In 1963, the family moved to Tachikawa Air Force Base in Tokyo, Japan during the war years. In 1969, they moved to McClellan Air Force Base in Sacramento, California and lived there until retirement in 1972. They came home to Cache Valley and settled on the family farm in Trenton.

She took full advantage of the many places she lived by sightseeing and traveling with her family all over Japan and Northern California.

Joyce always stayed busy playing sports like bowling, golfing, and softball. She really enjoyed building a home in Trenton where she kept busy quilting, canning, gardening, and helping on the farm. She sunk roots vowing to never move again. She worked hard and enjoyed her many accomplishments.

She is survived by her husband of 68 years, Cecil Payne, three children: Larry (Terri), Debra (Matt) Lorenz, & Robert (Cindy), 10 grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren.

A viewing will be held Sunday, September 1 from 6:00-8:00 pm at Nelson Funeral Home (162 E 400 N). A viewing will be held on Monday, September 2 at 10:30-11:30 am with the funeral following at 12:00 at Nelson Funeral Home in Logan. Interment will follow at the Trenton Cemetery.
