Josephine Hood Jensen

Josephine ''Jody'' Hood Jensen died on 22 April, 2004 in her home with all of her family around her, She died of kidney failure after having been on kidney dialysis for three years. Jody was born on 14 April 1945 in the Mesa Southside Hospital in Mesa, Arizona. She was the youngest child of Sam and Amy Gibbons Hood, and she was her mother's second child and her father's ninth. She grew up and was educated in the Mesa area schools, and graduated from both Mesa High School and the LDS Seminary in 1963. Jody attended Lamson Business College and earned a certificate as an executive secretary in 1964. Even though circumstances prevented her from furthering her formal education, she continued learning by reading and participating in continuing education through her employment. She met and married her life-long companion Michael James Jensen in Mesa, Arizona. They met on Christmas Eve on 1966, and were married in the Arizona Temple in Mesa, Arizona, in March of 1967. They lived in various communities including Tucson, Arizona, San Jose, Costa Rica, Preston and Iona, Idaho, Moab, Blanding, Tremonton, Logan, and currently North Logan, Utah. Jody worked as an executive secretary, daycare provider, historical researcher and writer, newspaper staff writer, newspaper managing editor, procedures analyst, and quality control analyst. Whatever position she held outside of her home, the main emphasis of her life was her husband, her children, and her home. Jody was a life-long member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She held various positions starting as a Sunday School and Primary teacher at age 13 working with three-year old children. She has served as Primary president, in the Relief Society Presidency at both the ward and stake level, ward librarian, and boy scouts. She is survived by her husband of North Logan, three daughters and a son and two nephews she raised. Her children are Amy Jo Robert S. Portlock, West Jordan; Juliet Jensen, Eagle Mountain, Utah; Ruth Mark E. Walton, Bountiful; and Martin J. Krista Jensen, Madison, Alabama; nephews Rick Sherry Hood, McCammon, Idaho; and Timothy L. Janice Hood, Redmond, Utah; 12 grandchildren; half-sisters Ruth Hood Linder, Dorothy Hood Koubik, and Bertha Hood Bud Smith. Written by Jody Jensen Feb 2004. As a final selfless act Jody donated her body to research for the causes of the horrible disease Nephregenic Fibrosing Dermopathy NFD that took her life. In lieu of flowers, Jody asked that donations be made to the Bridgerland Dialysis Center at the Logan Regional Hospital. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, April 27, 2004 at the North Logan 8th ward chapel under the direction of Nelson Funeral Home. A viewing will be held prior to the funeral, from 9:00 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. at the church. Internment will be in Moab, Utah, on Thursday, April 29, 2004.
