Josephine Petersen Jackson

LEWISTON--Our beloved mother, grandmother, great grandmother and great-great grandmother, Josephine ?Jodie? Petersen Jackson, 94, passed away peacefully at the home of her son on Jan. 2, 2008 of causes incident to age. She was born May 19, 1913 to Joseph and Margaret Pitcher Petersen in Cardston, Alberta, Canada at the home of her paternal grandmother. She was the second daughter in a family of five with three sisters and one brother. The family moved from Canada to Cornish, Utah when she was two years old. She received her schooling in various Cache County schools, graduating from North Cache High School. Jodie married Wells Jackson on December 20, 1933 in the Logan LDS Temple. During the difficult days of the Great Depression, she worked side by side with her husband to make ends meet. Jodie was always a strength and support to her husband in all of his endeavors until the time of his passing on September 2, 2006. They spent the majority of their married life in Lewiston where they owned and operated a farm. For several years, she and Wells traveled throughout the western states participating in his hobby of horse pulling. During this time, Jodie spent many hours embroidering beautiful pillowcases and crocheting afghans which she enjoyed giving to family members and friends. Many have been the recipients of Jodie?s unique talent of writing poetry. Often she expressed herself with a personalized verse included in a special card to family, friends, or neighbors. She has written many ward/stake road shows, Christmas and Easter programs in rhyme. She was a devoted member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints throughout her life. She served faithfully wherever she was called in the MIA, Primary and as a Relief Society visiting teacher for over 50 years. Jodie had a great love for the Savior and a strong testimony of His Atonement. She inspired this conviction in her children and posterity. Her example of faith and dedication has been paramount as a wife, a mother, and a grandmother. She found happiness in her family and in making her home a place of delight and comfort where she created an influence of cheerfulness, love and good will. She had the ability to make every grandchild believe they were her ?favorite.? She demonstrated her love in her desire to cook for each grandchild the things they like most to eat. She continues to be greatly loved by her family. She is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Janean and Charles Bauman, Bountiful, and a son and daughter-in-law, Dennis and Karen Jackson, Lewiston, twelve grandchildren, thirty-five great grandchildren and one great-great grandchild. She is also survived by her brother and sister-in-law, Grant and Beth Petersen, Ogden. She was preceded in death by her husband, Wells; parents, Joseph and Margaret Pitcher Petersen; sister, Myrl Kendall, Velda Rasmussen, and Avis Myler. The family wishes to express heartfelt gratitude for the expert and compassionate care given to Jodie by the many aides and staff of Alpine Hospice. A special thanks to Granddaughter Shalise Summers, Noel Gill and Joyce Larson with whom Jodie developed a close relationship and who always lifted and encouraged her through their service. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, January 7, 2008, in the Lewiston 1st Ward Chapel, 10 South 1600 West, Lewiston, with Bishop Michael B. Stephenson conducting. A viewing will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday at the Church and from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. prior to services. Interment will be in the Lewiston City Cemetery.
