Joseph Christian Jacobsen passed away at his home Wednesday, May 14, 2003, in Logan, Utah. Joseph was born November 14, 1914 in Logan, Utah to Christian and Martha Jane Jacobsen. He graduated from Logan High School in 1933. Joseph met and married his sweetheart, Thelma Tidwell, here in Cache Valley and were married in the Salt Lake Temple in October of 1935. While serving as a Master Sargent in the Army Engineers in the Pacific from 1940 ? 1946, Joe built the Ernie Pyle Monument in Okinawa and the main Officer Club Building in Fort Lewis. Joe was a native of Logan and was a fourth generation builder. Joe had built over 500 homes, churches and stake centers, the Logan Recreation Center, Smithfield Golf Course, Logan City Service Center, schools, Utah State University Buildings, Bridgerland Square, 10th North Apartments and many other projects throughout the Valley. Joe served as Logan City Commissioner for four years, Chamber of Commerce for two years, Elders Quorum President and was in the Sunday School Superintendency. He enjoyed spending many hours working with the Boy Scouts, donating both time and money to Hull Valley. Joe loved to spend time with his wife, both here in Cache Valley and at their home in St. George, Utah. They traveled world wide and rarely spent time apart after Joseph?s return home from the Army. Joe loved to spend time with their grandchildren and great grandchildren. Joseph will be greatly missed by all of his family and those who knew him. Joseph is survived by the love of his life for 68 years, Thelma Tidwell Jacobsen, son: Douglas Joseph Jacobsen of Logan, daughter: Susan Etherington of Logan, his grandchildren: Brandi, Lange, Linsey, Kurt, Neil, Jack and Kristan; and great grandchildren: Chase, Kellen, Austin and Thalia. He was preceded in death by his parents and 13 brothers and sisters. An amazing man to our family. Never forgotten in our hearts, he touched with a kiss, we love him dearly. He will be missed. Funeral services will be held at 12:00 noon on Monday, May 19, 2003 at Nelson Funeral Home, 162 East 400 North, Logan. Friends and family may call Sunday evening from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. and Monday morning from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. prior to services. Interment will be in the Logan City Cemetery, where military honors will be provided by the Logan American Legion Post 7. Condolences may be extended to the family online at
