John Richard JR Corbett

John Richard Corbett J.R., 68, passed away March 13, 2008 with his loving wife and family by his side. He returned to his Heavenly Father after fighting a long battle with colon cancer. J.R. was born September 28, 1939 in Logan, Utah. He was the son of Bert Corbett and Mary Lucille Nelson. J.R. was the oldest of 3 children and lived his entire life in Smithfield. J.R. graduated from North Cache High School in 1957. After graduation, he began his career working road construction with Jack B. Parson. He enjoyed this occupation for over 40 years. He loved working on the family farm. Going ice fishing with family and friends was a favorite past time. J.R. also loved spending time with his grandchildren, teaching them how to farm and fish. The grandkids looked forward to sleepovers with their grandpa and what made this so special was eating grandpa's pancakes. J.R. was married to Yavonne Krambule and later divorced. From this union came a daughter Susanna. J.R. then married Jennie W. Toomer on August 31, 1962. Their marriage was solemnized in the Logan Temple April 10, 1965. He adopted Jennie's two daughters, Phyllis, and LoriAnn. Later the family was joined with two sons Todd, and Andrew. J.R. is survived by: his devoted wife Jennie, who took care of him while he had cancer; five children, Susanna Jose Rodriguez, Phyllis Alvares, LoriAnn Ron Hoffman, Todd Cheryl Corbett, and Andrew Marnie Corbett; 17 grandchildren, and 4 great-grand children. He is also survived by his sister Mary Lou Bodrero, brother Robert N. Corbett, many nieces, nephews, aunts and uncles. He loved them all. J.R. was preceded in death by his father Bert Corbett and mother Mary Lucille Nelson Corbett. The family would like to thank Dr. Mark Ott and office staff from the IMC Hospital of Salt Lake City for all the council and loving care that they gave. They would also like to thank the staff of Dr. Avery and Dr. Ali Ben-Jacob, Alpine Home Care and Hospice for all the individual care given. The family also expresses their heartfelt gratitude to the Smithfield 12th ward relief society, friends and families. Funeral services will be held on Monday March 17, at 11:00 AM at the Smithfield 12th Ward Chapel, 640 North 200 East. Friends and family may call at the Nelson Funeral Home, 85 South Main, Smithfield, Utah, Sunday from 6 to 8 p.m. and also Monday morning from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. at the 12th Ward Chapel. Interment will be at the Smithfield Cemetery. Condolences may be extended to the family online at www.nelsonfuneralhome.com .
