John DeMar Fonnesbeck

September 24, 1933 — May 14, 2023

John DeMar Fonnesbeck returned to his sweetheart on May 14, 2023. He passed peacefully at home surrounded by his loving family.

He was born on September 24, 1933 to Willis and Gwen Fonnesbeck in Smithfield, Utah. He was the fifth of 8 children. He married his sweetheart, Sharon Larson, on June 29, 1956 in the Logan L.D.S. temple. Together they made their home in Smithfield.

Dad was a lifelong resident of Smithfield working for Cache County Road Department and Cache County School district where he retired.

Dad had a love for animals, he was a fantastic horseman, and enjoyed his time with cutter races and training horses. You could always find him at the barn with the cattle and he enjoyed his small hobby ranch.

Together, him and mom had four children: Joyce, Elaine (Lee), Craig (Nancy) and Amanda. He had six grandchildren, six step-grandchildren, and 30 great grand kids who he was so proud of.

He is preceded in death by his wife, his mom and dad and four of his siblings. The family would like to share their thanks to IHC home hospice and the handful of doctors who showed their love.

A viewing will be held on Friday, May 19 from 6-8 pm at Nelson Funeral Home of Smithfield (85 S Main) & on Saturday from 9:30-10:30 am. A graveside service will follow at 11 am the Smithfield City Cemetery. A luncheon for family & friends will be at the Lion’s Lodge after the graveside. Condolences and memories may be shared online at www.nelsonfuneralhome.com
