John Lee Fisher

October 10, 1942 — April 16, 2014

John Lee Fisher, 71, from Benson, Utah passed away peacefully on April 16th 2014 in Salt Lake City. He had recently been diagnosed with cancer and suffered from a cardiac arrest on April 10th. He was born on October 10th 1942 in Logan, Utah to Firm and Elizabeth Fisher. He was raised in Smithfield, UT and enjoyed having fun with his many friends as a boy. They slid down Heinz Hill, went horseback riding, played ball and marbles. He learned the value of hard work at a young age which he passed on to his sons. He carried water to his older siblings as they worked in the fields. They said he always had a trail of water running down his chest from taking too many sips on the way to the field. He milked cows and worked on the family farm in Smithfield. He was the youngest of the family. He was preceded in death by his parents Firm and Elizabeth Fisher; siblings, Faye Fisher and DeVar Fisher, sisters-in-law Betty K. and Joycelyn Fisher. He is survived by his loving spouse Bonnie, siblings, Sharon Ken Roberts, Rexburg ID; Hal, Smithfield, UT and Rhonda Don Horsley, Wellsville, UT. He leaves behind a loving legacy of his sons, Jeff Lisa, Helena, MT; Ted, Benson; Joe, Smithfield; Spencer Amy, Benson, and grandchildren, John Lawrence, Jacob LaMar, James Lee, Jordon Luke Helena, MT, Josh Keoni, Tasha LaPree Wailani Benson, UT. John married Bonnie Tarbet on November 16, 1962 in Benson, UT. They have enjoyed almost 52 happy years together. They have lived in Smithfield, UT and Rupert, ID, and have currently lived in Benson, UT for the past 36 years. John was a dairy farmer in Smithfield and Rupert ID, He also worked as a heavy equipment operator for the Cache County Road Department for over 30 years. Most recently he has been a farmer and raised and raced quarter horses. This year he and his sons Ted and Joe completed a very successful season by taking a cutter racing team to both the state and world championships. John with be greatly missed by his family and his friends at the coffee shop. Funeral services will be held Tuesday, April 22, 2014 at 11:00 a.m. in the Benson 2nd Ward Chapel, 3432 North 3000 West, Benson. Friends may call at Nelson Funeral Home, 85 South Main, Smithfield on Monday evening from 6 to 8 p.m. and at the church on Tuesday from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. Interment will be in the Smithfield City Cemetery.
