John Raman Drake, 101, died at home Wednesday, November 24, 2010. He was born in Wilson Lane, Ogden, Utah, on 6 January 1909, the fifth child of Lewis Wells and Mary Edith Hill Drake. The family moved to Burley Idaho where he attended school, graduating from Burley High School in 1928. He married Margaret Jessie Wyatt on 27 April 1930. Their marriage was solemnized in the Logan Temple on 25 July 1930. They raised three children, John, Joyce, and Alton during the Great Depression and WWII. He worked at many jobs, moving the family from coast to coast. He attended Utah State University and earned a BS degree in Landscape Architecture in 1951. While there he was a light-heavy weight wrestling champion. He taught Seminary for 17 years in Ogden, UT, earning a Masters Degree 1956 from Brigham Young University. Raman and Jessie moved to Lowell, Oregon in 1968. He worked as a guidance councilor until he retired from teaching in 1973. They moved to Salt Lake City, Utah, where he worked as a guide on temple square. Garland, UT became their second retirement home. They next moved to Layton, Utah to live with their son Alton. In 2002 Raman moved to Bisbee, AZ to live with his son John. He was a lifelong member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and gave faithful service in a multitude of callings. He was serving as Bisbee Ward Sunday School President at the time of his death. He is preceded in death by his parents, his wife Jessie, son Alton, daughter Joyce, daughter-in-law Phyllis, 5 brothers, and 3 sisters, and 2 grand-daughters. He is survived by his son John Linda of Bisbee, daughter-in-law Maurine Steve Taylor of Ogden, Utah, brother Lynn Vesta Drake of Wendell, Idaho, sisters Rayola Calvin Crane and Ortell Wilson of Burley, Idaho, sixteen grandchildren, thirty two great grandchildren, seven great-great grand children, and many other members of his loving extended family. Funeral services will be held Thursday, Dec. 9, 2010 at 1:00 p.m. at Rogers and Taylor Funeral Home Chapel, 111 North 100 East Tremonton, UT. Friends may call from 11:30 a.m. – 12:45 p.m. at the funeral home Thursday prior to the funeral services. Burial will be in the Wellsville Cemetery.
