Merrit Coleman was born in Logan, Utah, to Henry and Alta Coleman. He died peacefully in Logan, Utah, on May 12, 2018. His parents and a brother Val Coleman preceded him in death. He is survived by his wife, Elaine, their son Ty and his wife Cindy and grandchildren Audrey and Magen, a daughter Dorinda and her husband David, and brothers Quinn (Mary), Gene (Lezetta), and Randy (ReNae).
Merrit attended the Smithfield Elementary and North Cache High School. He served a mission to the South West Indian Mission and later with his wife in the Fiji Mission. He attended Aeronautical School in Reno, Nevada, and graduated with a certification as a Commercial Pilot with an Instrument Rating. He and three other men owned a flying operation at Logan Cache Airport called Air Oasis. He worked at USU soils lab retiring in 1998. His work at USU allowed him to make lasting friendships with people from all over the world. Whatever he did and where ever he went he made lasting friendships because he truly loved his fellowmen. He will be remembered for his love of the gospel of Jesus Christ, his love for his family, his love of nieces and nephews, his love for farming and his love of flying. As he graduates from this “school” into a wonderful world of love and peace, we say a loving farewell and God’s speed.
A funeral will be held Saturday, May 19, 2018, at 1:00pm. Friends are welcome to come to a viewing Saturday morning from 9 am until Noon at the LDS 25th Ward building at 672 West 220 North in Smithfield, Utah. Condolences may be sent to the family online at
