JoAnn Alice Zollinger Peterson

March 27, 1932 — November 7, 2004

JoAnn Alice Zollinger Peterson, passed away Sunday Nov. 7th 2004, surrounded by her loving family and friends at LDS Hospital, Salt Lake City, UT. JoAnn was born Mar. 27, 1932 in Logan, UT, the daughter of Lawrence D. Zollinger and Ruby Jensen Zollinger. She was the oldest of four children. She grew up in Providence where she was a big help on her dad?s farm. She graduated from South Cache High School in 1950. She attended Utah State University until 1952. She married Jay Clyde Bud Peterson on July 8, 1952 in the Logan LDS Temple. JoAnn worked for many businesses throughout the valley. Her favorite was her own business catering weddings. She started out with cakes and wedding dresses, she then began doing flowers and food. She later added decorations. She catered many local weddings and functions, and especially loved decorating cakes and making floral arrangements. JoAnn had many talents. She was very creative in the visual and musical arts. She was an accomplished pianist and singer. She studied piano under Professor Wasserman at Utah State University and voice under Professor Tueller. She taught hundreds of people to play the piano. She played for many plays and operas at USU. She was the music director of the Logan 8th and Hyrum 1st wards. She was the organist for the Providence 4th ward up until the time of her death. She sang with Bel Cantos, The Towne Singers, and the Northern Utah Choral Society, where she traveled to sing at the Lincoln Center in New York City, Rio de Jenero, Brazil, and Mexico City. Her music enriched the lives of many people. JoAnn loved to paint with oils. She took classes with Kent Wallis and Rom Vila. She loved to paint with her friends. She gave many paintings to friends and family. She loved gardening, her cats and cooking. She was a great cook, as her children can attest. JoAnn also loved to travel. She traveled extensively in the United States and visited three continents. She was a member of the DUP, and DAR, where she was famous for her book reviews. She was an active member of the LDS church where she held many callings, among them Relief Society President, music director, organist, Relief Society teacher, and visiting teacher. JoAnn loved her grandchildren and loved to make gifts for them. JoAnn is survived by 1 daughter and son-in-law, Vikki and Lou Vitali of West Jordan, 3 sons and daughter-in-laws, Ed and Loriann Peterson of Garland, Jon and Gloria Peterson of Providence, and Mark and JoAnne Peterson of Hyrum; 12 grandchildren, and 1 brother Dennis Zollinger, and 2 sisters, Kathryn Busenbark and Sharon Reynolds. JoAnn is preceded in death by her husband Jay Clyde ?Bud? Peterson. Funeral services will be Friday, Nov. 12 at Noon in the Providence 4th Ward Chapel 155 N. 100 E., Providence with Bishop Blaine Fuhriman conducting. Friends may call at Nelson Funeral Home, 162 E. 400 N. Thursday from 6:00-8:00 pm and Friday at the church from 10:30-11:30 am. Interment will be at the Providence Cemetery.
