Jim Henry Kolster

April 17, 1924 — November 28, 2011

Jim Henry Kolster, age 87, passed away November 28, 2011, at the home of his daughter, Francine Kolster Medrano, in Kanab, Utah. He was born April 17, 1924, at the family farm outside of San Angelo, Texas, to Clara Price and John Kolster. Jim spent his growing years in Texas and served in the Marines during WWII. He met Patience Bernice Adams in California and they married in Logan, Utah in 1946. Jim attended Utah State University for engineering courses in their early marriage. Jim started an Army career, which took him all over the U.S. west, to Korea, and to Germany. Jim retired from the U.S. Army as Lt. Colonel in El Paso, Texas, and then moved to Logan, Utah, in 1989.
Jim was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and attended Logan's 5th ward and the branch at Pioneer Valley Lodge in North Logan. He had a life-long love of tools and working with his hands and actively served his neighbors and fellow church members. With Bernice, he raised five children: Jim Henry Kolster II Darlene Dwyer, Spencer, IN, Kristine Kolster, Francine Medrano Steve, Kanab, Utah, Robert John Kolster Jenette Gutierrez, Tijeras, NM, Matthew Wade Kolster, Utah. Patience Bernice Adams Kolster passed away in 2002. Jim married Lucille Pease in 2004. He married LaDene Richins Bingham in 2006.
Jim is survived by three of his children, 12 grandchildren, 15 great grandchildren, his wife LaDene Richins Bingham, his sister Margaret Pittman Tate, Wichita Falls, Texas, and Wesley Kolster Willette, El Paso, Texas, nieces, nephews, and cousins. He is preceded in death by Patience Bernice Kolster, wife, Kristine Kolster, daughter, Robert Kolster, son, Thomas Crenshaw, grandson, and Billy Benjamin Rice, grandson.
Funeral services will be held at the Nelson Funeral Home 162 E. 400 N. in Logan, UT, on December 14, 2011, at 11 o'clock. Burial will be in the Logan City Cemetery. Friends and family can visit before the services from 10 am.
