Jessie Lue Slack Johnson, 85, peacefully returned to the loving arms of her Heavenly Father and husband, James W. Johnson on January 29, 2011.
She was born in Logan, Utah to Arthur Ted and Florence Rees Slack on February 23, 1925, the second child and daughter to her family. She grew up on a farm in Benson. She attended primary school in Benson, and then attended North Cache Junior High and High School, where she played the drums in the marching band. She attended Utah State University.
She married James Warren Johnson, on June 7, 1946 in the Logan Temple. They had two children: James Darwin J.D. Jeris Johnson and Vicky Lue Jerry Fonnesbeck. They had four grandchildren: Patrick, Angela, Travis and Jason. They have 6 living great-grandchildren: Paige, Evan, Carter, Colten, Dalton and Tylee. She was preceded in death by her husband James, her parents, her sister, Joy, and a great-grandson Jaxon.
Jessie was very active in the LDS church, she served many positions within the church both on the ward and the stake level, but her love was the scouting program. She and James both worked with cub-scouts and boy scouts totaling over 60 combined years. Jessie received her Silver Beaver Award along with James for their service in scouting. She was an expert seamstress and worked many years at Mode O'Day and Superior Cleaners. She also did private sewing. She loved to knit and crochet and she knitted sweaters for all of her grandchildren.
Funeral services are under the direction of Nelson Funeral Home. The funeral will be held Thursday, February 3, 2011 at 12 noon in the Logan 16th Ward church at 125 West 600 North, Logan, Utah. There will be viewing on Wednesday, February 2 from 6-8 p.m. at Nelson Funeral Home, 162 East 400 North, Logan and also from 10:30-11:30 a.m. on Thursday at the church before the funeral.
