Jennie Cutler Larsen, 94, of Newton, Utah passed peacefully away at the home of her daughter in St. George, Utah December 5, 2003. Born in Willard, Utah to Joseph R. and Jennie Rozelle Wood Cutler on December 29, 1908, Jennie was the oldest of seven children. She graduated from Box Elder High School ? the same year Charles Lindberg flew across the Atlantic Ocean. She was the Corinne Ward organist at 14 years of age until she graduated from high school. She graduated from the William Budge Memorial Hospital as a Registered Nurse in 1931. She was superintendent of nurses at the Pearse Hospital in Brigham City until she went to California where she was superintendent of a small hospital in San Diego. She married Grant Larsen of Newton in Yuma Arizona on November 22, 1933. Their marriage was later sealed in the Logan LDS Temple for time and eternity. She and Grant have lived their entire married lives in Newton where they farmed in both Newton and Bancroft, Idaho. Jennie?s nursing skills were utilized many times in Newton. She taught Red Cross nursing classes to several townspeople. Jennie has had a constant thirst for knowledge. She was a registered graphoanalyst and analyzed handwriting for many friends and relatives. She is a published author and has written short stories and poetry. She received honors from Utah State Writers League. In 1958 she returned to school and graduated from USU in 1961. She taught school at Summit Elementary School in Smithfield, Utah from 1960 until she retired in 1971. She took painting classes, at USU and taught painting classes from which many beautiful paintings evolved. She was an expert seamstress and has designed and made many quilts. She was an excellent homemaker. Jennie was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints and served in all appropriate auxiliary organizations on both a ward and stake basis. She was a member of the Jens Peter Benson DUP camp. Grant and Jennie celebrated their 65th wedding anniversary in 1998. Grant passed away July 18, 1999. Jennie will be greatly missed by her family and friends. She is a great example of enduring to the end cheerfully. She was a wonderful loving and caring wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother. She is survived by a daughter Ruby Jay Woodward of Newton and St. George: Four grandchildren; Judy Alan Ashcroft, of Kaysville; Jed Collen of Newton; Janene Kyle Comer of Lehi; and Jill Jonathan Despain of Salt Lake City; 10 great grandchildren, Jessica, Kacie, Tyler, Kylee Woodward; Cameron, Colton, Joshua Comer; McKenzie and Melissa Despain; Justin Ashcroft. She is also survived by 2 sisters, Ilene Burton Hill of Cove, OR; Lenora Jones, Tremonton; and one brother, Robert Lorraine Cutler of Salt Lake City. Funeral service will be held on Thursday, Dec 11, 2003 at 12:00 Noon at the Newton 1st/2nd Ward Church. There will be a viewing on Wednesday, Dec 6 from 6:00-8:00 p.m. at the Nelson Funeral Home, 85 South Main, Smithfield. There will also be a viewing prior to services at the church from 10:30-11:30 a.m. on Thursday. Internment will be in the Newton Cemetery.
