Hyde Park ? Jeffery Lynn Bates, 42, returned peacefully to his Heavenly Father, Saturday, November 16, 2002 at his home surrounded by his family, after a courageous battle with a brain tumor. He taught us all to cherish each precious day, to fight with courage, to be a better friend and to make the best of things we can not change. He was born September 29, 1960 in Rexburg, Idaho, the son of Lynn and Karen Bates. His most enjoyable times were spent with his family making magical memories at Disneyland and Disney World. He continued the magic at home by drawing his favorite character illustrations. He had the talents of art creativity and woodworking. Jeff enjoyed many outdoor recreations including camping, boating, 4-wheeling and the boys weekend at the Idaho sand dunes. Jeff had two sweethearts in his life. His loving wife, Sabrina and their daughter, Tiauna, who will always be the apple of her Daddy?s eye and whom he is so proud of. Jeff married Sabrina King on March 21, 1986 in the Logan Temple. He attended Cache County schools, graduating from Sky View High and furthered his education at Utah State University, where he received an associates degree in Mechanical Drafting and Design. At the time of his death, Jeff was employed by Space Dynamics Laboratory, Utah State University. Jeff was active in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints and a member of Hyde Park 2nd Ward, where he served in many capacities. He also served an LDS Church mission in the Tempe, Arizona Mission. He is survived by his wife, Sabrina and one daughter, Tiauna, Hyde Park; his father, Lynn Reed Bates, Smithfield; grandmother, Margaret Cobbley, Smithfield; sisters and brothers: Julie Mick Curtis, Smithfield; Jared Janette Bates, Smithfield; Ginger Jason Fenton, Nibley; Ryan Alisa Bates, Logan; and his mother-in-law, Wanda King, Hyde Park. He is also survived by brother and sister-in-laws: Meb Liz King, Riverside; David Vickie King, Hyrum and many nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held on Thursday, November 21, 2002 at 12:00 noon in the Hyde Park State Center, 535 East 200 South, with Bishop Marty Salisbury conducting. Friends may call Wednesday evening, November 20, from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Nelson Funeral Home, 85 South Main, Smithfield and on Thursday morning from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. at the Hyde Park Stake Center. Burial will be in the Smithfield City Cemetery. Condolences may be extended to the family online at www.nelsonfuneralhome.com .
