Jeannine Balls Munk

December 13, 1928 — November 9, 2010

Jeannine B. Munk
AMALGA, Utah - Jeannine Balls Munk, loving wife, mother, and grandmother passed away, surrounded by her family, on November 9, 2010, at the Terrace Grove Assisted Living Center in Logan, Utah where she spent the last two weeks. Jeannine was born on December 13, 1928, in Hyde Park, Utah, to Wilford and Maida Seamons Balls. Jeannine married Andrew Robert Munk, June 3, 1948, in the Logan LDS Temple. They have lived in Benson and Amalga, all their married life, where they own River View Dairy Farm, with their sons and grandsons. She was the youngest, with 7 brothers who taught her how to play ball. She was on the Hyde Park City Women Softball Team that won two State Championships.
She graduated from North Cache High School in 1947. Jeannine has always been an active member of the LDS Church serving as secretary of the Primary and Relief Society, ward librarian and a very faithful visiting teacher. Her and Bob served as officiators in the Logan Temple for 28 months. She loved working with the new brides there. Jeannine was a member of the Cher-i-mee Club in Benson for over 50 years, enjoying lasting friendships. She and Bob enjoyed snowmobiling for many years with their friends from Benson Ward, making memorable trips to Yellowstone for a week each year, or an annual trip to Lake Powell in spite of her fear of water. Jeannine spent her life as a homemaker, knowing her most important role in this life was that of a wife, mother and grandmother. She devoted her whole life serving her family. She was a great example of how to live your life with humility and service. She enjoyed gardening, doing most of the work herself to keep up her with beautiful flowers and well manicured yard. She had a bountiful garden and shared her canning skills with all the daughters, preserving everything she grew with special recipes that our families can live without. Family dinners at Grandma and Grandpa Munks were the highlight of any special occasion, especially Christmas. All the grandchildren have found memories of special sleepovers, and milk toast for breakfast .They always knew of Grandma love for them. Jeannine was a great supporter of Bob in all of his endeavors in life and on the farm. Whatever needed to be done, you could count on her. She designed the home they now live in and for many years was always painting things on the farm to keep it looking its best. Until a couple years ago, she did all the bookkeeping for the family farm operation, drove truck for the hay and corn harvest and wasn afraid to feed a few calves if needed. Jeannine and Bob enjoyed traveling to Hawaii, New Zealand, Australia and Tasmania when picking up sons from missions. They traveled Europe, including England, France, Germany, Switzerland and Holland. After traveling in their motor home to several Western states including Alaska, they decided to build a winter home in St George, and spend time with their daughter family. They have enjoyed 13 years as snowbirds, flying south with many of their Cache Valley friends and finding many new friends at the Canyon Cove senior community. Jeannine and Bob have always enjoyed a good ballgame, supporting the Blue Sox Baseball, USU Aggie , and enjoying JAZZ games to this day. They were great supporters of their grand children, anywhere they played, in whatever sport they were participating in. They could hear Grandma and Grandpa in the stands cheering them on. Mom never missed a Jazz game or the World Series.. Jeannine has enjoyed good health her whole life, never being in the hospital for anything except having babies, till this past year. When her life slowed down, her favorite thing to do was go for a ride. It was nothing for Bob to take her for a ride for 3-4 hours each day, and they always seemed to end up at a good restaurant, Maddox being her favorite.
Jeannine was preceded in death by her parents and all 7 brothers, DeMar, Pearl, Don, Randall, Dale, Mack and LuDean. She is survived by her husband Robert Munk, children, Brent Debbie Munk, Jerry MarilynMunk, and Rodney Lori Munk of Amalga, and Shela Corey Lambert of St. George. 14 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren. A viewing will be held on Sunday, November 14, 2010 from 6-8 pm at the Nelson Funeral Home, 16 East 400 North Logan, Utah. Funeral services will be held on Monday, November 15, 2010 at 12:00 Noon, preceded by a viewing from 10:30 to 11:30 at the Amalga LDS Church, 6521 N 2400 W Amalga, Utah. Interment will be at the Smithfield Cemetery.
