Jean Foster Simmons

August 16, 1930 — September 10, 2009

Jean Foster Simmons, 79, passed away September 10, 2009 in her home after a long battle with dementia. Born August 16, 1930 in Ogden, Utah to Harvey Payne Foster & Ella Louise Smout Foster. Married DeWayne W. "Jake" Simmons June 24, 1949 in the Logan LDS temple. They celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary in June 2009. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother & sister. Her unconditional love enriched her family and friends. The reflection of her wonderful character is shown in the loving family she leaves behind. Jean graduated from Bear River High School, attended selected classes at Boise State University, the University of Utah and completed an interior design course. She operated "The Nail Nook" acrylic nail business in her home for several years. She had a great love and talent for music. She enjoyed directing & singing in ward & stake choirs. She was a member of The Jay Welch Chorale. She was gifted in painting, sewing & crafts. Her legacy of creativity, talents, & sensitivity will be missed by all those who knew her. She served in many callings for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. She was an ordinance worker in the Bountiful Temple for over 3 years & served a 2 year mission with her husband at The Mormon Battalion Visitors Center, San Diego, CA. Preceded in death by her parents & son, Bart F. Simmons. Survived by her husband, children Nathan Deborah Simmons, CO; Calvin Cyndy Simmons, UT; Gail Ross Cheesman, UT; Bret Linda Simmons, CA; Angela Kirk Petersen, UT; 23 grandchildren; 21 great grandchildren; twin sister Joan Foster Bigler, AZ; and brother Stephan Harvey Foster, ID. She loved her family dearly. The family expresses special thanks to the nurses, aides & staff of Harmony Home Health Hospice, Clearfield, UT who provided wonderful service of comfort & support to the family. Also a heart felt thanks for the Foxhill Ward Relief Society's compassionate service. Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, September 16, 2009 at the Foxhill Ward Chapel, 200 So. Eagle Ridge Blvd., North Salt Lake, with Bishop Rick Wood conducting. Friends and family may call at the church from 6 to 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday evening, September 15, 2009, and from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday morning prior to services. Interment will be at 3:00 p.m. at the Beaver Dam Cemetery, Box Elder County, following services. Online condolences may be extended at www.rogersandtaylor.com .
