Jasper Lee Trimble

May 14, 1903 — October 15, 2003

Jasper L. Jap Trimble passed away at the home of his daughter in Logan, Utah on Wednesday, October 15, 2003. Verda, his wife of 69 years was sitting at his bedside holding his hand. Jasper, who lived all his life in Missouri, moved to Logan in October 2000 with his wife Verda to be with their daughter Carole and son-in-law Don Emerson, who is the pastor of Maranatha Baptist Church. Jasper was born in 1903 in a log cabin on a farm near Columbia, Missouri, the oldest of six children born to Jesse and Della Trimble. He attended the University of Missouri where he met his wife Verda Grace Kauffman. He moved to Jefferson City, Missouri in 1930 where he and Verda were married in 1933. Life Insurance, mutual funds, Black Angus cattle, and real estate development all were a part of his successful business pursuits. Jasper is survived by his wife: Verda; a daughter, Carole Emerson of Logan, Utah; four grandchildren, six great-grandchildren and one sister, Marjorie Semon of St. Charles, Missouri. One son, Robert L. Trimble preceded his father in death. Jasper was a member of the Jefferson City, Missouri Lions club for 73 years a past president and very active and probably the longest tenured Lion in the state. He was also a member of the First Baptist Church since 1930. Jasper was absolutely delighted when he turned 100 this past May 14th. He liked to recount all the changes in the world since his birth. In 1903, the Wright Brother?s plane lifted off the ground for 12 seconds and Henry Ford organized and sold his first Model A Ford for $850. He remembered with excitement the first car and radio owned by his family. During college he washed dishes for 10 cents an hour. He and Verda?s first home in Jefferson City during the early 1930?s cost all of $5, 000. Jasper enjoyed life immensely and credited several things to his longevity: good genes ? his granddad lived to be 98 and rode his horse until age 95; a sense of humor ? his grandfather always enjoyed good jokes and his favorite comedians are George Burns and Bob Hope; a wonderful wife, Verda, who has been his support and companion for almost 70 years; his philosophy of life ? ?All you can take with you is what you have done for others?; regular exercise that has included quail hunting, ?coon? hunting, fishing, golf, and walking; and most of all, God?s grace and mercy in Jesus Christ. Jasper kept his sense of humor and zest for living right to the very end. He always had a joke and smile for all who talked with him. His favorite activities in Logan the last three years included walking daily, putting at the Logan River Golf course during the spring and summer, and during the winter playing ?18 holes? at the local indoor chipping and putting course ? ?Qualifiers Tournament Golf? ? when he felt good. Dad will always be remembered as loving his family, a hard worker, and readiness with a smile and laugh. A memorial service will be held at the First Baptist Church of Jefferson City, Missouri, at noon on Wednesday, October 22nd, with burial to follow near Jasper?s birthplace in Columbia, Missouri.
