Amalga ? Jane LaVin Petty Bingham, 87, passed away peacefully at her home after a short illness on September 20, 2002. She was born February 3, 1915 in Montello, Nevada, a daughter of Lewis James and Sarah Ann Reese Petty. Her family moved to Amalga, Utah when Jane was four years of age and she has resided there since that time. She attended the local schools, graduating from North Cache High School. She married Ralph ?M? Bingham on November 30, 1932 in the Logan LDS Temple. Together they raised a family of four children: Carole, Brian, Bruce and James. Jane was active in the Smithfield Civic Club and volunteered at the Logan Regional Hospital for 15 years. Being a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, she served in many capacities. She served in the Young Womens program for 28 consecutive years on both ward and stake levels. She has also served as Relief Society President, visiting teacher, Gospel Doctrine teacher and as an extraction worker. She is survived by a daughter and a son: Carole B. Leavitt, Oroville, California and James Bingham, Amalga, Utah. Her posterity includes 14 grandchildren and 33 great grandchildren. She is also survived by two sisters, Marie Pitcher, Smithfield and Annabelle Bugger, Las Vegas, Nevada. She was preceded in death by her husband, Ralph and two sons, Brian R. and Bruce P. Bingham. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, September 28, 2002 at the Amalga Ward Chapel, 6521 North 2400 West, with Bishop Lloyd Jenson conducting. Friends and family may call Friday evening, September 27, from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Nelson Funeral Home, 85 South Main, Smithfield and on Saturday morning at the church from 9:30 to 10:30 prior to services.
