James Edward Nessen

December 3, 1908 — July 5, 2006

Howell ? Jim graduated from this earthly life early on July 5, 2006 after surrendering to multiple complications of 97 years of a life of service and example. He is now with his bride, Verda with whom he enjoyed 70 years of love and accomplishment. She has gone on before and has been preparing a place for him since June 18, 1999.
He is survived by his children, LaMont Ranae Nessen, Lyle Lois Nessen, Koy Joe Harris, Ronald Barbara Taylor. He has a legacy of 17 grandchildren, 57 great grandchildren and 25 great, great grandchildren and one sister, Geniveve Jennie Phillips. He was preceded in death by one grandson and three great grandchildren.
He married Verda Emma Olsen August 8, 1928 in the Logan LDS Temple. He and his new bride bought his father?s farm in Howell about 1927, raised his family and went through the depression. He retired in 1971. He and Verda wintered in Arizona over 35 years and since her death, he has continued to do so.
He had many things that he loved; his family, his Church, and the study of the Gospel Principals, Family History, photography, his guitar, flying his Ercoupe airplane and of course the challenge of farming. He was a member of the Utah Flying Farmers, Sons of Utah Pioneers and served as a 4-H leader.
He has had a life of service. Some of his L.D.S. callings were Sunday School President, Bishop, Bishop?s Councilor, and High Council. He spent several years as director of the Howell-Blue Creek Watershed project in and around Howell valley. He received the National Watershed Man of the Year Award.
Funeral services will be held Monday, July 10, 2006 at 12:00 noon at Howell Ward LDS Chapel, 16035 North 17400 West, Howell with Bishop William Dean officiating. Family and friends may call Sunday from 5:00-7:00 p.m. at Rogers and Taylor Funeral Home, 111 North 100 East, Tremonton and Monday from 10:30-11:40 a.m. at the church. Interment at Tremonton Riverview Cemetery. The family would like to thank the staffs at Brigham Community Hospital and Pioneer Care Center.
