James Lennis Chambers

James Lennis Chambers passed away at his home in West Jordan, UT on October 12, 2013 at the age of 94. As far as we know, he lived to be the oldest Chambers or Toolson family member.
Lennis was born July 27, 1919 in Smithfield, UT to Tacy Toolson and George Chambers. He married Drue Wilson Archibald on February 4, 1942 in the Logan LDS Temple.
Lennis spent his life farming from the time he was a child working on his father's farm in Smithfield until after his retirement from his farm in Trenton, UT. He had a short break from farming when he served in the US Army stationed in the Philippines during World War II. He spent long hours planting, harvesting, watering, and working with cattle. He worked hard and taught his family how to work hard. After he partially retired in Trenton, he turned his farming skills to his garden and yard and continued that traditionas long as he was able when he moved to West Jordan, UT.
Lennis loved his family and always preferred to spend time at his own kitchen table as opposed to 'going out'. He spent many hours in church service and helping out his neighbors. He loved delivering produce to his friends in Trenton and missed having a large garden to share once he moved to West Jordan.
Lennis spent many of his later years taking care of his wife, Drue. He wanted to make sure that she could remain with her family as long as possible and was able to keep her at home with the help of his daughters, Teresa and Angela until her death in 2006.
Lennis was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. He served faithfully as Bishop, High Councilman, in the Sunday School, Mutual, and Scouts. He liked to say he held every job in the church he could hold at least once.
Lennis is survived by daughters and sons-in-law, Marianne George Mayfield, North Ogden, UT; Paul Olcott, Mesquite, NV; Kathy Keith Karren, Lewiston, UT; Cindy Keith White, Avondale, AZ; Jayne Wayne Shupe, Harrisville, UT; Teresa Chambers, West Jordan, UT; Angela Chambers, West Jordan, UT; 16 grandchildren, 39 great-grandchildren, sisters, Tacy Oral Ballam, Ruth Dean Harrison and Faye LeGrande Shupe. Lennis was preceded in death by his wife, Drue, daughter Susan Olcott, his parents, and siblings, Ferris Ruth Chambers, Alice Garnel Poppleton, Mary Scott Bair, and Aileen Ray Minkler.
We would like to thank Affinity Hospice for their help and support over the last 5 ½ months. We would especially like to thank Dr. Reid Harrison and Kathy Rogers. We appreciate your loving care and concern during this difficult time.
Per Lennis' wishes, a funeral will not be held. Graveside services will be held at the Smithfield City Cemetery at 2:00 pm on Wednesday, October 16th.
