Ivan Robert "Bob" Wuthrich

Ivan Robert "Bob" Wuthrich passed away at The Gables of Ammon Assisted Living on Monday, February 10, 2014 from causes incident to age. Bob, 92, was born on September 24, 1921, in Montpelier, Idaho, to Robert and Martena Wuthrich. He attended schools in Montpelier and graduated from Montpelier High School in 1941. After graduating he went to work at various gas stations pumping gas and washing cars for $.20 an hour. He soon decided to become a telegrapher and began the practice. Thanks to his older brother, Arlo, He learned telegraphy and agency work on the railroad. He started work for the Union Pacific Railroad at $.69 an hour. The railroad would be his employer for the next 42 years. He married Marilyn Anderson on June 27, 1943, in Kilgore, Idaho. They were married for 66 years. He served honorably in the Army in the China Burma India Theater during World War II. Bob and Marilyn made their first home in Dubois, Idaho. Later they moved to Rexburg, Idaho, then Malad, Idaho and finally Smithfield, Utah were they resided for 37 years. He liked to hunt deer and pheasants and go fishing. He was popular with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren for reciting "Betty and the Bear". He was a master gardener and told his family frequently that it was "the time from the garden to the pot" that made the difference. Bob is survived by his children: Lance Deena Wuthrich of Twin Falls, Id; Dick Wuthrich of Brigham City, Ut; and Alair Dana Schroeder of Iona, Id; twelve grandchildren; and twenty three great-grandchildren and his brother, Arlo Wuthrich. He is preceded in death by his parents; wife, Marilyn; brothers Don and Farrell Wuthrich; daughter-in-law, Marcene Wuthrich; and great-granddaughters, Lilly Maydia Stowe and Hailey Rae Wuthrich. A "graveside" service will be held at the Nelson Funeral Home, 85 S. Main St., in Smithfield, Utah at 11:00 AM on Saturday, February 15th, with burial to follow at the Smithfield City Cemetery with military honors provided by the Smithfield American Legion. A viewing will be held from 10:00 to 10:45 AM at the Nelson Funeral Home, in Smithfield. Condolences may be extended to the family online at www.nelsonfuneralhome.com .
