Isaiah Robert Schumann

June 5, 2020 — March 11, 2023

Isaiah Robert Schumann was born on June 5, 2020 in San Diego, California.  He brought
immediate joy to his parents and brothers.  Before crawling, his method of traveling was rolling
laterally across the floor.  One of his first words was “yeah?,” and it was his primary response to
nearly every communication.  At 10 months, he received his first pair of glasses.  When we put
them on him, his face lit up, as now he could see clearly.  He loved going for bike rides on
Mom’s special bike seat.  He also loved spending time with his brothers and getting into
mischief—running away and laughing as he did it.  His laughter was infectious, and many were
drawn to his brilliant smile.  He especially loved playing with cars, listening to stories about
trucks, putting together puzzles, and being involved in family games. Games of his own creation
included: hiding his empty milk bottles, pulling off all the books from the shelves, removing
discs from CD cases, “improving” his oldest brother’s artwork, and popping out the lenses of his
glasses.  Two of his favorite songs to sing were “I am a Child of God” and “Happy
Birthday.”  Over time, wild curly hair became his trademark look.  One of his favorite ways to
engage with things, no matter how sturdy or fragile, was to stand on them.  Isaiah had a
boundless sense of curiosity and a sweetness and light he carried within his spirit wherever he
went.  Isaiah was fiercely independent (“I do it!”), and in his own dialect led us in prayer at
every opportunity—at mealtimes and bedtime.  He was generous with his smiles, hugs, and
affection.  He completed his mortal journey on March 11, 2023.  He is survived by his father,
Paul, mother, Emily, and older brothers Josiah and Benjamin.
