Irene Szenasi Johnson

April 10, 1918 — December 29, 2006

Irene Szenasi Johnson, age 88, passed away Friday December 29, 2006 at the Logan Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. She was born April 10, 1918 on a farm East of Corsicana, Texas- the daughter of Hungarian immigrants Agnes Budai and Frank Szenasi.
Irene grew up in a large family on farms near Corsicana, Dilly, and Pettys Chapel Texas. She graduated from Gila Junior College in Arizona where she met her husband Woodrow Johnson. They later divorced and she and her two children David and Cecelia moved to Holliday, Texas to care for her mother and run a 200 acre farm.
She moved to Logan in 1956 to be near her sister Ann and worked at Sears and later as the USU Bookstore assistant manager and buyer. Irene was a very hard worker who loved to garden and kept an immaculate yard. She loved to cook Hungarian food, do handwork, travel, decorate her home and luncheon tables, and tend her grandchildren. She sacrificed much to care for her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Irene was an adult convert to the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served in many positions in the church.
She was preceded in death by her parents, sisters Ann Trussel, Ethyl Haines and June Wallace and brothers Joe, Ruf and Alfred Szenasi. Survivors include David Carol Johnson of Nibley, Cecelia Jay Sorensen of Smithfield, 12 grandchildren, and 27 great grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday January 3 at 2 p.m. at the Logan Central LDS Stake Center 1255 N. 600 E. Viewings will be held Tuesday January 2 from 6-8 pm at the Nelson Funeral Home, 162 East 400 North, Logan and from 12:30-1:30 pm prior to the funeral at the church. Burial will be in the Logan Cemetery.
