Ileen Andrew

Ileen Andrew, a longtime resident of Logan, passed away peacefully Sunday, February 1, 2009. She was born in the Logan Hospital on July 9, 1928 to Alexander Leroy and Lydia Andrew. She was their seventh child. Ileen grew up in Trenton and graduated from North Cache High School at age 16 after skipping a grade. She went to Salt Lake City and attended LDS Business College and was given a job at an oxygen company for a year in Salt Lake. She returned home and got a job at the Logan Hospital in medical records. She took a leave of absence from work and served an LDS mission in the Western Canadian Mission, which she loved. She returned to Logan Hospital in 1949 and worked in the medical records as the director until July 1, 1987. Ileen was instrumental in starting the Logan Hospital Credit Union in 1961 and was the manager of it until July of 1990. She enjoyed many activities. She was an avid bowler and was in several leagues over the years. She was a dedicated Aggie basketball fan with season tickets and received recognition for her uninterrupted attendance at their games. Ileen also had a love of travel – she has visited all 50 states, England, Ireland, Scotland, Denmark, Sweden, Russia, Israel, Taiwan and loved going on cruises to the Caribbean, Panama Canal and Alaska. She was talented in different handiwork including needlepoint, crocheting and haranguer, which many of her family members have enjoyed. She enjoyed cultural events in the valley, with friends and family, attending seasons of opera and plays at the Lyric Theater and Ellen Eccles Center. Ileen was also an active member of the LDS Church, serving in many capacities as ward librarian, visiting teacher, and in the Relief Society Presidency. She was also a temple officiator at the Logan LDS Temple from 1957 until 1976. She was loved and appreciated by her family which includes one living sister, Mae A. Art Marshall; sisters-in-law: Wanda Andrew, Ruby Andrew, Ann Andrew; brother-in-law, Leland A. Cottle; numerous nieces and nephews; and lifetime friend, Marie Veibell. She was preceded in death by her parents; and her siblings: Mildred A. Cottle, Donald L. Andrew, Merlin L. Andrew, Norman J. Andrew, Dean C. Andrew and Laree A. Cottle. Funeral services will be held at 12:00 noon, Thursday, February 5, 2009 at Logan 4th Ward Chapel, 294 North 100 East. Friends and family may call Wednesday evening from 6 to 8 p.m. at Nelson Funeral Home, 162 East 400 North, Logan and Thursday morning at the church from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. prior to services. Interment will be in the Trenton Cemetery at 3:00 p.m. Condolences may be extended to the family online at www.nelsonfuneralhome.com .
