Idonna Mathews Larsen

Idonna Mathews Larsen passed peacefully from this life on Christmas day, December 25, 2008. Idonna was born May 4, 1920 in Alta, Wyoming to Lytton Y. and Ruby O. Rice Mathews. Idonna spent her young life on the "Pitchfork Ranch," owned by her father. It was located on the west base of the Teton Mountains in Alta, Wyoming. She attended her grade school years in Alta Wyoming, Her high school years were in Logan, UT, Teton, WY, and Driggs, ID. It was at the end of 1st quarter at the USAC, in Logan that she met her best friend and future husband Mervin W. Larsen. She said all the things she admired in him just grew in their marriage. They eventually sealed their marriage on July 17, 1950 in the Logan, L.D.S. Temple. During their married life, they lived in Utah, Wyoming, Idaho, California and Oregon. They spent much of their life in Providence, Utah, where Idonna's ancestry helped establish this beautiful city. Their later years were in St. George Utah. Idonna's last year was spent with her daughter and son-in- law, Stephanie and James Pope, in Eagle Mountain, UT Idonna suffered from polio early in her marriage and with a condition called "post polio," later in her life, which condition eventually contributed to her death.
Idonna had an extensive knowledge of the doctrines of her L.D.S. religion and loved studying and teaching its principles. She was a certified genealogist and spent many hours tracing her proud heritage. Idonna leaves a family of six wonderful sons and daughters, M. Don Kathryn Smithfield, UT., Larry Jodie Edgewood, WA, Greg Judy Kaysville, UT., Stephanie James Pope, Eagle Mountain, UT., Cassie Brent Bair, Quincy, IL.., and Yvette Larsen, Saint George, UT. Idonna is also survived by 24 grandchildren and 23 great grandchildren. Idonna was preceded in death by her parents, one sister, Mona Nebeker, two half brothers, Eldon and Doyle Mathews and her son Neil Larsen; also, two grandchildren, Brady and Matthew Larsen. Idonna's family would like to extend grateful thanks to Dr. Bryan Turner, Nurse Wendy Kanno and the staff of Inspiration Hospice. Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, December 30, 2008 at Nelson Funeral Home, 162 East 400 North, Logan. Friends and family may call from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday morning prior to services. Burial will be in the Providence City Cemetery.
