Grouse Creek, UT - Hughie LeroyThompson, 77, died Friday, February 8, 2002 of a collapsed roof accident at his home. He was born September 2, 1924 in Tremonton, UT, the son of Fredrick Edward and Margaret Ann ?Dolly? Hansen Thompson. He attended elementary school at Almo, ID. He graduated from Bear River High School in 1942. Mr. Thompson was a WWII Army Veteran, stationed in Germany. Hughie married Marjorie Tanner, June 23, 1948 in the Logan LDS Temple. He owned and operated his ranch in Grouse Creek for the past 50 years. He worked for the Box Elder County Road Department for approximately 30 years. Hughie was presently a member of the Board of Directors of the Raft River Power Co-op and has done so for 50 years. He was a member and officer of the Grouse Creek Livestock Assn.; member and officer of the Grouse Creek Pipeline Company and was past president of the Grouse Creek Co-op. He was a High Priest in the Grouse Creek Ward, serving as Bishop and served in several bishoprics and Young Men?s President. He was presently Sunday School President and has served in many other callings. Surviving are his wife of Grouse Creek; five children and their spouses, LaNette Dee Andersen, Garland; LeAnn Richard Orton, Brigham City; Bambi Tim Gardner, Pleasant View; Blair Guy Cynthia Thompson, Providence; Brian L. JoLene Thompson, Brigham City; thirty-five grandchildren, three of which are currently serving full-time LDS missions, and 26 great grandchildren. He and Marge were also foster parents to nine children. Also surviving is a sister-in-law, Larena Thompson, Bliss, ID. Hughie is preceded in death by his parents, brothers, Acel, Milo, Arland and Darwin; Sons-in-law, Bryan Gibbs and Keith Plowman and grandsons Joseph L. Thompson and Jake Gardner. Funeral services will be conducted Wednesday, February 13, 2002, at 12:30 p.m. at the Grouse Creek Ward Chapel, with Bishop Jay Tanner officiating. Friends may call Tuesday, February 12, at Rogers & Taylor Funeral Home, 111 N. 1st E. Tremonton from 6-8 p.m. and Wednesday at the Grouse Creek Church from 11:00 a.m. -12:10 p.m. Burial will be in the Grouse Creek Cemetery where military honors will be accorded.
