Helen Josephine Quist Milligan

Helen Josephine Quist Milligan died August 25, 2005, at Williamsburg Retirement Center in Logan, Utah of causes incident to age. She was born April 23, 1914 in Salt Lake City to Aaron Lambert and Josephine Mumford Brown Quist. In her early childhood her family moved to Arco, Idaho, where she received her schooling, graduating from Arco High School. Later she attended Boise Business College and USU in Logan. She worked as a secretary in Arco and Boise, Idaho. While in Boise, she was a personal secretary to Ezra Taft Benson. Other places she worked as a secretary were at the USU Water Lab and Stanford University. For many years she typed theses for graduating students. She married Cleve Henry Milligan July 30, 1936 in the Logan Temple. He died June 23, 1984. A member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, she served as Relief Society President five times and had many other callings including temple ordinance worker. She served a mission with her husband in Arizona and Ecuador, and another mission in Peru. Cleve and Helen lived in Boise, Idaho; Palo Alto, California; Ogden, Salt Lake, Logan, North Logan, and Smithfield, Utah. They also had University assignments in Teheran, Iran, and Merida, Venezuela. She enjoyed working with USU?s international students, doing family history work, handwork, gardening and reading. Her work ethic was an important part of her life. Helen was always proud of the achievements of her children, and their families and encouraged them to educate themselves, strive for excellence in their various pursuits, to follow through on commitments, and to serve others. Most of her children and grandchildren have graduated from universities and many have obtained, or are seeking advanced degrees. Fifteen grandsons are Eagle Scouts and many grandchildren have served LDS missions. They are all a credit to her, and all wish to pay tribute to her wonderful life. She is survived by five children: James Bonnie of Moscow, Idaho; Ann Kersten of Tucson, Arizona; Shawnee Keith Tom of Providence, Utah; Erin Eileen of North Logan, Utah; and Kathy Anderson Leonard of Bremerton, Washington but currently residing in Cebu, Phillippines; one foster son, Bjorn Johansen; 24 grandchildren; 42 great grandchildren; two brothers-in-law, and three sisters-in-law. Those who preceded her in death include: her husband; parents; three infant children; two foster daughter-Stella and Linda Walker; five brothers-Homer, Stuart, Blaine, Arthur, and Marion; a sister-Mary Marys; and a son-ion-law-Clyde Kersten. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Monday, August 29, 2005 at the LDS Chapel located at 2750 North 8th East, North Logan. Friends and family may visit from 12:30 to 1:30 on the day of the services at the church. A viewing will also be held at Nelson Funeral Home, 162 East 400 North, in Logan on Sunday evening from 6:30 to 8:00 p.m. Interment will be at the Logan City Cemetery.
