Hazel Morris Hall

December 18, 1917 — November 22, 2005

Hazel Morris Hawks Harris Hall, age 87, passed away on Tuesday, November 22, 2005, Kennewick, WA. Hazel was born December 18, 1917 in Bingham, UT, daughter of Josephine Wimmer and Eugene Morris. As a child she loved to play outdoors and called herself a ?tomboy?. But she also loved to play with dolls and would spend hours creating and sewing clothes for them. This love of sewing lasted her whole life as she took great pleasure in sewing clothes, costumes, drapes, bedspreads and upholstering furniture. Hazel has said, "I was never lonely as long as I had a needle, thread, and some material to work on?. Hazel also loved to study and be in school, which lead to her career choice of being a teacher. She truly blessed the lives of hundreds of children from Portage, and Bingham Canyon, plus Willard and Tremonton in her forty-four years of teaching. Hazel?s first teaching job was in Portage, UT. It was here where she met and married Joshua DeRoy Hawks on May 7, 1940. They were blessed with two children, J.D. and Julee. As a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Hazel served in many capacities, including: Young Women, Ward and Stake Relief Societies, Teacher Development and Gospel Doctrine teacher. In her later years, Hazel suffered greatly with many health ailments, but through it all she was an example of courage, faith and patience. She truly is an elect Lady. Hazel is survived by her brother Douglas E. Morris of Midvale, UT; children: Elder James DeRoy Hawks and wife Nan Oyler Hawks of Rexburg, ID, who are currently serving an LDS mission in Crown Point, New Mexico; Julee Ann Hawks Perry and husband Dr. John Christian Perry of Richland, Washington; 11 grandchildren and 11 1/2 great grandchildren. Proceeded in death by her parents and sister, Helen Christenson and three husbands: Josh Hawks, Loyal Harris and Kaye Hall. The family would like to thank the staff and residents at Tranquility Manor, and the Tri-Cities Hospice in Kennewick, WA for their sweet, tender and compassionate care of their mother, Hazel.
