Hal Samuel Christensen

Hal Samuel Christensen, Col., Ret. of Fairfax, Virginia, passed away peacefully on Friday, April 15, 2011, at age 88. He was born and raised in Logan, Utah, where he graduated from Utah State University. During college, he was a top tennis player on the USU team, he was a member of the Sigma Chi Fraternity, and played in a dance band. He honorably served his country in the U.S. Army Signal Corp during WWII Office of Strategic Services OSS, precursor to the CIA, Korea and Viet Nam conflicts, serving in the military from 1942 to 1979, retiring as a full Colonel. His distinguished military service was recognized with numerous awards including the Bronze Star, and several Legion of Merit Awards. He earned a Master's degree in Electrical Engineering from Oregon State University, where he also taught ROTC. He married Eva Joy Wallgren, July 1946 in the Logan LDS Temple, and had a daughter Kimberly Ann. Kim passed away on November 30, 2008. Joy passed away during a difficult child birth and their second child also perished. In December 1954, he married Julia Theurer of Providence, Utah. Their marriage was later sealed in the Logan LDS Temple and they had a loving and beautiful marriage for 45 years. They had two daughters, Stephanie and Stacy in addition to Kim. Hal's numerous interests included amateur radio, tennis, watching and participating in various sports, traveling, genealogy, reading, and his family. He was an active member of the LDS Church throughout his life, serving as bishop of the Fairfax, Virginia Ward and a sealer in the Washington, D.C. Temple. His kindness, love of life, and positive spirit will be greatly missed by all those who knew him. He is survived by his daughter, Stephanie Christensen Lewis Larsen, of Alexandria, Virginia, and their children, Mark, Chase, and Alexis; by his daughter Stacy Christensen Scott McFarland of Granite Bay, California, and their children, Taylor Lindsay, Matthew, Jonathan, and Megan; son-in-law Donald Wright and grandchildren Christopher Shani Wright, Jennifer Wright; and five great grandchildren. He was loved greatly and will be missed immensely. A memorial service will be held on Friday, April 22, 2011, 11:00 a.m., visitation at 10:00 a.m. at the Edgehill Ward Chapel, 290 East Canyon Road, Providence, Utah 84332. Interment will be in the Providence City Cemetery, Providence, Utah.
