Tremonton - Gwen Nelson Burton returned home to her eternal companion on Oct. 20, 2011, surrounded by loving family in heaven and on earth. She was 76. Gwen was born April 4, 1935, to Asa Cutler Nelson and Mary Lucilia Layton in Thatcher, Utah, the youngest of nine children.
Gwen married William Darrell Burton, Jr. on May 19, 1952, and was later sealed to him in the Logan LDS temple. Together, they raised 10 children, had 42 grandchildren and are approaching 50 great-grandchildren.
Gwen was active in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, serving faithfully in Primary, Young Women and Relief Society. She worked at Carl and Don's grocery store in Tremonton for many years and was the owner of K.D.'s Drive-in in Garland. Gwen enjoyed sewing and cooking but, most of all, spending time with her family.
Gwen is survived by her children Janet Randy Call, Joan Ken Gilbert, Val Kathryn Burton, Gary Sandy Burton, Cindy Lynn Richins, Jim Brenda Burton, Melanie Robert Evans, Charlene Dan Kidman and Keri Burton Melanie Lloyd.
She was preceded in death by her parents and eight siblings, husband William Darrell Burton, Jr., and daughter Corey Burton Rowley.
Funeral services will be held Monday, Oct. 24, 2011, at the Tremonton Utah Stake Center, 660 N. 300 East, at 11 a.m., presided over by Bishop Glade Merrell. A viewing will be held Sunday at Rogers & Taylor Funeral Home, 111 N. 100 East, Tremonton, from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. and Monday from 9 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. at the stake center.
